  • Develop and facilitate academic skills workshops for SSS STEM/Health Professions students.
  • Provide students with the necessary information to be successful in academic courses at the university.
  • Assist with recruitment, selection and retention of program participants.
  • Coordinate summer Student Success Program (Summer Bridge).
  • Work with students individually to provide guidance in various areas including academics, financial aid and career counseling.
  • Evaluate SSS STEM/Health Professions student abilities and assign appropriate placement with SSS tutors.
  • Hire, train, and supervise tutors and student workers.
  • Coordinate the CRLA Tutor Certificate Program. Instruct tutors and monitor their progress through the different phases of certification.
  • Administer assessment instrument(s) to SSS students, and record and document test results.
  • Provide assistance for student/staff related technology needs.
  • Provide instructional support to students as needed.
  • Act as liaison to DPC faculty and the Student Success Center.
  • Maintain confidential SSS student records in accordance with federal rules and regulations.
  • Assist SSS Director in planning and implementation of program goals and activities.
  • Assist SSS Director in report writing activities related to the SSS and help formulate information reported to the U.S. Department of Education and the university.

Days and Schedule:
Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM; May include extended hours, some evenings and weekends.

Job location is primarily at the Downtown Phoenix Campus; however incumbent may occasionally be required to travel to other ASU campuses to perform work

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education or related field
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including first generation, low-income and students with disabilities
  • Experience using computer applications, e.g. PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office-Word, Outlook, Excel, and Access databases

Department Statement

The Office of the Dean of Students at the Downtown Phoenix Campus fosters student support services, student engagement opportunities and student development facilitation. The Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with various team members to provide a holistic experience for the ASU students.

TRiO STEM/Health Professions Student Support Services (SSS) Program at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix campus is a federally funded TRiO program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. The TRiO STEM SSS Program provides assistance and services to first generation; low-income, and students with disabilities. The goal of STEM Student Support Services Program is to increase the retention and graduation rates of participants. This position is located at the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus and will report to the TRiO SSS STEM Program Director. The STEM program is part of ASU’s Educational Outreach and Student Services area and serves students by ensuring a dynamic, successful, and healthy academic career at ASU.
