Coordinator, Child Nutrition Programs – Team Nutrition Grants

SPECIAL NOTIFICATION: This position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission.

The State Department of Education is seeking a Coordinator for Child Nutrition Programs Team Nutrition Grants.

The Team Nutrition Grants Coordinator, under administrative direction from the Director of Child Nutrition Programs, performs work of considerable difficulty and exercises independent judgment, initiative, and leadership.

The principal function of the Team Nutrition Grants Coordinator is to provide leadership in promoting, expanding, and maintaining grant programs. Responsibilities include coordinating, monitoring, and ensuring compliance for grant-funded and other programs between the federal government or other granting entity, the State Department of Education (SDE), and educational agencies in the State of Idaho. The position provides training and technical assistance to program sponsors, maintains current information about regulatory and other program requirements, and coordinates program efforts with relevant public and private entities.

The work is performed under the supervision of a Program Director, but considerable latitude is given within grant and other program regulations and stipulations. The principal duties of this position are performed in a general office environment, but may require occasional overnight travel. This is a full time position serving under an appointment of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administers grant-funded and other programs for school administrators, teachers, school food service personnel and other educational institution personnel

Provides information on grants, assisting with applications, ensuring applications comply with grant parameters and stipulations, reviewing and scoring applications, recommending grant awards, collecting performance data to ensure program progress, ensuring grant requirements and stipulations are met, monitoring funding and spending, maintaining a tracking system of expenditures and balances, monitoring deadline and timeline compliance, and preparing periodic performance and financial reports, as required

Prepares and distributes documentation, handbooks, manuals, and related written material to support grant implementation

Prepares, presents, and participates in information and training seminars and workshops

Coordinates programs through relevant public and private sector organizations, committees, groups, and agencies

Prepares and distributes documentation, newsletters, handbooks, manuals, and related written material to support grant implementation

Collects, analyzes, and reports program implementation and grant data

Collects, maintains, and analyzes information, reports, and documentation

Monitors expenditure reports to compare expenditures rates, service levels and program outcomes to ensure services/programs are provided in accordance to requirements

Maintains and distributes a variety of reports, correspondence, and related documents

Prepares and presents verbal and written reports, including periodic reports as required to maintain grant funding

Responds to inquiries and requests for information, interprets program regulations and guidelines, and provides assistance to school districts and other interested parties

Represents the Department at local, state, and regional conferences, seminars, and meetings, as directed, including serving on committees, study groups, councils, task forces, and related associations

Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with SDE policies, procedures, and safety practices

Carries out assignments as requested by higher level administration and USDA

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition/dietetics, public health, health education or other related field required

Skilled in Microsoft Office software, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Knowledge of and ability to interpret state and federal laws and regulations that relate to Child Nutrition Programs

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with a variety of public entities; expertise in human relations skills; and ability to assume leadership role in the area of Child Nutrition Programs

Knowledge of theory and practice of nutrition education

Experience with budget and fiscal oversight

Cognizant of recent research in the area child nutrition

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Extra consideration will be given)

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Association Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) preferred, or registry eligible

Additional consideration given for a Master’s degree

Three years’ experience in the field of food service administration, nutrition assessment, nutrition program planning and implementation or related activities is preferred

Experience in planning, conducting, and/or presenting nutrition and food service administration training sessions or classes desirable

Experience with writing and/or administering grants also a plus

Preference may be given to applicants with prior experience working with USDA Child Nutrition Programs, such as the National School Lunch Program and the Child and Adult Care Food Program
