Clarke is seeking independent, self-motivated, detail-orientated, safety focused and environmentally conscious individuals with a passion for the outdoors to join us for a fun seasonal job opportunity.

In support of Clarke’s commitment, we seek passionate individuals to work in conjunction with Cook County Department of Public Health as seasonal interns

Cook County Interns are responsible for identifying ideal field sites to conduct mosquito virus surveillance within Cook County. They will monitor these sites on a regular basis throughout the season and determine time and need for movement of surveillance sites. In the lab they will prepare mosquito samples, perform virus testing, and record results. Interns may also be responsible for inspections of water sites for mosquito larvae presence and possible larvicide treatments based on findings.

Multiple positions are available. No prior experience is required. Paid training is included!

Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm

Pay: $13.00 per hour with mileage reimbursement

Location: Office is located in Oak Forest, IL.

Use of personal vehicle is required. A mileage reimbursement of .47/per mile will be provided

Required Experience:
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize a map to drive to the assigned areas and to walk to potential breeding sites
  • Set mosquito traps to collect adult samples and perform ID work on samples collected
  • Check water samples to determine if mosquito larvae or pupae exist and save samples
  • Measure treatments accurately and dispense granules in a safe, proper and timely manner
  • Process and submit samples and data to the Lab Technicians
  • Keep accurate records on each trapping/collection including product used to ensure completion of customer contracts
  • Responsible for making sure safe work practices and procedures are followed at all times

Successful Candidate Must:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Possess a high school degree or equivalent with high school level math skills
  • Communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms
  • Have a valid Driver’s License with an excellent driving record
  • Must own or have access to an insured and reliable vehicle
  • Ability to sit and drive a vehicle for extended periods of time as well as walk extensively

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to work through the end of our 2017 season (September/October)
  • Required to pass the Illinois Department of Agriculture General Standards Exam (training provided)
  • Must be available to work Monday- Friday, 8:30am – 4:00pm
  • Capable of using a handheld technical device including, but not limited to, smartphones, GPS, and system applications
  • Candidate must be comfortable performing assigned duties outdoors while walking through various and challenging terrain including but not limited to water, heavy vegetation and uneven land throughout various residential communities, urban environments and forested areas where environmental conditions are affected by weather
