Consulting Engineer

The Security Consulting Engineer is an ASG client liaison. This position proactively collaborates with other trades, provides project leadership for all aspects of physical security systems design and integration. Helps coordinate the overall planning, initiation, execution, monitoring, controlling, and closing aspects of security projects. Evaluates client design, provides engineering services, scheduling, and supports project implementation and follow through.

The Consulting Engineer engages and coordinates other resources to support estimating, engineering, CAD design, specification development, technology assessment, proposal and budget development. Provides direct support of designed projects to clients and ASG Project Managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborates with Sales Team to manage assigned accounts.
• Assists in providing a Needs Assessment to understand client risk.
• Develop appropriate planning documents including project plans. Review requirements to determine scope, schedule, time frame, estimation, allotment of available resources to various phases of the projects, and metrics.
• Plans, organizes, directs, controls and finalizes project activities around the design aspects of a project/systems.
• Reviews scope of work, coordinates engineering design, coordinates CAD & Revit drawing development, develop construction documents and specifications.
• Investigates and maintains knowledge of client security systems design standards, technology standards, enterprise security functions and processes.
• Co-develops client engineering and design standards.
• Collaborate with other groups and departments directly to ensure a successful project.
• Participates in peer reviews and documents recommendations.
• Manages initial Design and schedule commitments, ensure Design is integrated and aligned to overall organizational and business strategy.
• Analyzes, removes, and proactively prevents roadblocks across the project team to meet quality standards, project milestones, and business objectives.
• Assists in determining Design project costs for design/engineering projects.
• Researches and develops Design project timelines, deliverables, resources, tasks, and dependencies based on project requirements.
• Tracks Design events, tasks, dependencies and progress.
• Develops and maintains favorable interaction with decision-making, decision-influencing, and purchasing contacts.
• Investigates and resolves client problems in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate a team spirit in all job related activities and communications with co-workers and clients.
• Assists in Design sales process, including quoting and profitability.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Solid understanding of Security concepts, theories and processes of Consulting Engineering and Construction Management Methodology. Have a solid demonstrated proficiency in the use of project management tracking and management tools, including reports and outputs. Must have demonstrated proficiency in Consulting Engineering, with greater than 5 years Consulting Engineer experience, preferably in managing technology projects and technical staff.

Must be a Professional Leader, work with little supervision and have the ability to adapt quickly and lead.

Demonstrate successful history of working in the security integration/consulting system field, with at least 5 years of security applications engineering or security design consulting experience.

Domain knowledge/expertise in the commercial security industry is a plus particularly in the area of Security system design and implementation.

Demonstrated skills in the application of security consulting fundamentals, methodologies, and tools.

Excellent organization, personnel management, and matrix management skills. Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with people at all levels.

Excellent customer interaction and relationship skills.

Proven communication (verbal, written, presentation) and negotiation skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Construction Project Management design discipline; or five years’ related experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience.

Engineering experience relevant to electronic security system design, engineering and construction management across multiple clients on concurrent projects required, or equivalent education and experience.

CPP, PSP or RCDD certification is a plus.

LANGUAGE ABILITY

The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively one-on-one or before groups of customers or employees of the company.

MATH ABILITY

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

SKILLS

• Ability to read and comprehend Services Agreements and deliver the required scope of work on schedule, on budget, while limiting risk to the company.
• Advanced experience or knowledge in Engineering and Construction Management.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret drawings, schedules, spreadsheets and other common computer and technical data.
• Ability to respond pro-actively and diplomatically to inquiries or concerns from customers.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram format and facilitate several abstract and concrete variables.
• Strong knowledge of integrated security concepts, technical architecture and network and server technologies.
• Understanding of resource allocation, scheduling, and planning.
• Excellent verbal / written interpersonal skills with the ability to work positively and collaboratively within a team.
• Ability to work independently and formulate timely and sound decisions.
• Strong PC skills specifically utilizing the MS Office Suite Products (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, Etc.)
• Basic experience or understanding of AutoCAD and/or Revit is preferred.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
Project Management Certification and/or coursework is desired.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES
Ability to direct, influence, and leverage the work of others. Indirect management of ASG resources assigned to Design projects, to include handling of complaints and escalation within ASG leadership, as well as feedback coaching to internal individuals and teams. Interfaces and leverages resources within Sales, Engineering, Operations, Service, and the Senior Leadership Team. Must be a Professional Leader, work with little supervision and have the ability to adapt quickly and lead.
