We are seeking a Computer Operator.

Roles:

  • Ability to Monitor hardware and software systems in the data center (Terminal & 3030) and related logs.
  • The operator will be required to monitor UNIX and Windows servers, storage subsystems, centralized printing system and tape library systems.
  • Monitoring batch applications from a Workload Job Scheduler will also be required.
  • Ability to provide basic help desk functions including taking and receiving of customer calls, notification of application staff for batch job failures and notifying users of application outages during the normal business hours.
  • Changing of passwords on UNIX systems as requested by users.
  • Assist the systems staff with basic IT debugging and problem resolution.
  • Ability to work with high capacity production cut sheet printers.
  • This includes loading of paper trays, clearing of paper jams and loading and unloading of toner modules
  • Working knowledge of the Windows operating system graphical user interface and command line.
  • Ability to navigate within a browser such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Firefox.
  • Basic installation of Windows browser plugins such as Adobe Acrobat, Java, etc.
  • Ability to assist with the setup and configuration of data center IT assets such as desktop printers, monitors, also assist with rerouting of cables under the raised computer room floors, removal of damage or retired cables and occasional installation of network data cables or fibre-channel cables.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Outlook email client.
  • Sending and receiving of emails. Drafting of emails to users or groups of users, basic email administration including sending of “PostMaster” notices.
  • Ability to categorize and load obsolete or retired workstations, monitors, servers and printers for transfer to a centralized offsite disposal location
  • Experience with or ability to use a batch job workload scheduler on a UNIX system.
  • This includes experience with the scheduling of batch jobs, identify failed jobs, ability to cancel, rerun and put jobs in hold status.
  • Ability to assist (including lifting and carrying assets) with the inventory and tagging of new IT hardware including workstation, monitors and printers

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Experience with a centralized print server software on Windows or UNIX systems.
  • Ability to transfer jobs from one printer to the other, reset printers, identify jammed printers. Required / Desired Skills
