Component Engineer, Hardware

Google has one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. Your team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you’re right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

Responsibilities
  • Establish component part numbers and respond to component related development changes including MCO, ECO and Deviations.
  • Establish and maintain vendor part numbers (AVL) for components and assemblies.
  • Be responsible for securing specifications, attachment to part numbers and specification maintenance.
  • Perform BOM scrubs, review component line items for accuracy, optimize component selection, identify issues and resolve them.
  • Ensure component selection is consistent with regulatory compliance, target assembly-level manufacturing processes and work closely with internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in component engineering.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in small embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with Agile PLM system and Cadence Hardware development tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. with the ability to perform multiple tasks with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to speak fluently with vendors, Development Engineering teams, Component Engineers, Procurement, and Mechanical Engineering teams.
