Compensation Specialist

One big piece of the talent management puzzle is making sure that our levels of compensation and benefits are competitive, and we are able to effectively manage employees’ experience with compensation. The Compensation Specialist Role conducts competitive market analysis and develops recommendations to ensure Microsoft’s compensation and benefits programs are set to deliver against established compensation and benefits objectives. In addition, the role also supports regional C&B (compensation & benefits) manager(s) in delivering high quality compensation and benefits recommendations with data driven decisions.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Compensation: Participate in global or regional compensation survey with leading compensation and benefit consulting firms; procure survey data and prepare for upload into Microsoft’s central market analysis tool. Support global compensation consultant, regional C&B managers to complete role or segment market competitive analysis throughout the year to inform critical decisions on talent attraction, retention and pay mix changes. Support compensation program managers to conduct regular compensation program reporting, compensation program market benchmarking and competitiveness analysis to inform the compensation program design with evolvement throughout the year.
  • Benefits: Work with HR and local brokers to ensure clear understanding of benefit offerings by country. Participate in global benefits survey with leading consulting firms and upload the survey data into international benefits benchmarking template. Conduct benefits benchmarking analysis by gathering market data, conduct competitive analysis, and support regional C&B managers to propose recommendations for benefits program changes. Partner with local finance and Corporate finance to collect global benefits cost information and participate in annual salary and benefits planning process.

  • Market Insight and Annual Salary Budget Planning:
    Use market competitive analysis and connect with Microsoft internal critical business needs with thorough review of internal talent insight to propose regional and global annual cash compensation investment recommendations. Support pay mix change recommendations and review salary structures for responsible countries.

  • Global Compensation Program Reporting and Analytics:
    Deliver regular, automated program reporting to Global Compensation Program Owner and Client Compensation teams and provide key insight to inform program design.


Qualifications


Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of compensation and benefits or related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in core compensation responsibilities such as: job matching and job leveling, use of market data and internal comparators to determine salary levels, analysis & synthesis of data into recommendations, and development and review of salary ranges/salary increase budgets
  • Education – bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, statistics, or related area or the equivalent in related work experience
