Communications Specialist

Purpose

Promote Texas Digital Library membership, services, and programs through planning and execution of dynamic and effective marketing and communications strategies. Work with other outreach staff to facilitate growth of the TDL membership, maintain active consortial community, elevate TDL visibility

Essential Functions

Develop and implement communications and member recruitment plans targeting multiple audiences, in collaboration with Executive Director and other team members. Manage promotional campaigns from conception to completion. Manage the development, distribution and maintenance of all external-facing print and electronic collateral, including multiple web sites, social media channels, e-newsletters, brochures, and press releases. Use data-driven methods and tools to develop, measure, and assess the effectiveness of communications activities. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships to facilitate successful implementation of communications goals. Partner with internal units such as Technology and Services teams to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of content. Develop and maintain relationships with network of communications contacts within and outside of the TDL consortium. Assist with other recruitment and outreach activities as assigned, such as prepare talking points and presentations for the executive director; assist with conferences and events.

Required qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing or related field. Five years experience in marketing, communications or a related field. Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills, with experience developing and implementing communications strategies. Hands-on experience with content management systems, social media tools, and graphic design tools. Ability to build relationships with and communicate to a diverse group of constituents, including faculty members, library staff and administrators, students, and vendors. A track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently. Enthusiasm, maturity, and an aptitude for leadership, with the driving need to set and meet ambitious goals. A self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives. Willingness and ability to research and learn about new technologies and the work of libraries and archives.

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than five years of experience in marketing communications, digital content production, or a related field. Experience with grant-writing. Prior experience in marketing in the library or higher education space. High comfort level with information technology concepts. Design proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent graphic design suite.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement

System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the

position being at least 20 hours per week and at least

135 days in length.
