Description:
The Communications Professional is a key member of the technology communications team who researches, writes, edits, designs and disseminates, and retrieves communications to support the strategic initiatives of Information Technology Services (ITS). The communications professional contributes to a strong organizational culture by clearly and consistently communicating the vision, mission, core values and brand. Communications may be produced for internal or external audiences and may include Web content, employee news articles, announcements, presentation materials, marketing materials, surveys, digital signage and special projects. Works under general supervision; reports to the Strategic Planning and Technology Communications director.

Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Baccalaureate degree required.
  • At least one year of related experience required.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of marketing and communication principles.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and document layout principles.
  • Knowledge of social media communications principles.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Skill in the documentation of processes and procedures.
  • Skill in the development and implementation of communications and marketing strategies.
  • Skill in collecting, compiling and reporting on data.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to respond diplomatically to sensitive and critical issues.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task.

Desired Qualifications:
Strongly Prefer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related area or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge and skills.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures associated with developing content for the Web.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates excellence in writing, graphic design, development, and production of deliverables.

Prefer:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years related work experience in higher education.
  • Experience in information technology
  • Experience in graphic design
  • Experience with social media tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of AP Style Guide
