Communications Professional

Performs communications role for the Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program, a USDA grants program hosted by the university that serves farmers, researchers, extension and other agricultural service providers in the 12 northeastern states and Washington, D.C. The position reports to the program manager and works in collaboration with the regional coordinator and other SARE staff. The position has oversight of the design, content, tone, and overall concept of web, print and digital media – program publications, news releases, and social media – to assure the program message is consistent, clear, and targeted. The incumbent plans and produces promotional materials for SARE grant programs and educational products, and also oversees list management, develops grant application and instructional materials for the region, and writes and edits features and news copy to tell the story of Northeast SARE grants.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or related field and four years of experience in writing, public affairs, communications or related field. Experience with marketing and constituent relations. Knowledge of print production, including layout, print technology, and typography. Knowledge of digital media. Web design experience, including knowledge of usability issues, interpretation of site analytics, content management systems, and information architecture. Knowledge of copyright issues, privacy and disclosure issues, list maintenance, and other aspects of information management. Demonstrated ability to independently manage communications projects and budgets. Familiarity with social media applications.
