Communications Clerk (Dispatcher)

The Communications Clerk serves in a multifunctional role with Police Service with assignments and duties including but not limited to:

Serve as a dispatcher for VA Police Service.

Take calls for service, being sure to get enough pertinent, detailed information.

Dispatch police officers, relaying pertinent information to them.

Monitor security and fire alarms, as well as CCTV monitors.

Provide courteous and professional customer service.

Enter patrol information, call for service and dispositions into the Police Daily Operations Journal.

Use LINK/NCIC terminal in accordance with FBI and Kentucky State Police regulations.

Control entry to the VAMC Parking Garage

Input information into the PACS (Physical Access Control System).

Work Schedule: 7:00 am to7:00 pm & 7:00 pm to7:00 am

Specialized Experience :
GS-5

Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-4) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization or Four (4) years above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

OR

Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at the grade of GS-5. For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: Require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature.

Time-in-grade : Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-05?, position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04 level .
