Under the general direction of the Associate Director for Global Outreach, the Communications Specialist I implements all aspects of a comprehensive communications plan in support of UD Global, to include the programs, resources, and accomplishments of the Institute for Global Studies (IGS), the Office for International Students & Scholars (OISS), and the Confucius Institute (CI). Working in collaboration with the University’s Office of Communications & Marketing (OCM), the Communications Specialist is responsible for the writing and production of a range of digital and print communications to further the University’s global brand among internal and external constituencies. The communications plan should include strategic ongoing and micro-campaigns, measurements for assessing the effectiveness of efforts, and post-campaign reports with recommendations for subsequent work.

The Communications Specialist works with UD Global leadership and a student team to develop creative and innovative digital approaches, assess impact of efforts, and integrate findings into UD Global communications and outreach strategy.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Associate Director in the development of a comprehensive communications plan in support of UD Global, to include the programs, resources, and accomplishments of IGS, OISS, and CI. Craft written content for IGS and OISS communications including print, email, electronic newsletters, social media and web to meet the strategic goals of UD Global and to support the University’s global brand. Work with colleagues to identify subjects, gather facts, and confirm accuracy of work. Align efforts with OCM and external organizations to ensure adherence to established brand and protocol. Manage UD Global’s presence on social media platforms by creating unique and engaging posts, videos and photo galleries, curating hashtags and user-generated content, and developing campaigns. Advise UD Global staff on emerging trends in social media. Coordinate the design and production of IGS and OISS print materials and supporting online graphics;. Produce videos with a storytelling focus that includes interviewing compelling sources in the field, editing content, and working with OCM to share across appropriate platforms. Deploy and distribute communications in a timely fashion; serve as a point person for UD Global communications to internal and external audiences. Serve on the UD Global programming and outreach team and provide input on the planning, organization and coordination of IGS-sponsored events; assist in management of IGS and OISS websites, including making web updates, creating new content, and coordinating the development of online graphics. Supervise communication student assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree with two years of related experience. Proficiency in management of social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office/PowerPoint and database experience. Proficient in Final Cut or iMovie, photo editing software, such as Photoshop, and experience with video storyboarding, shooting, editing and posting to social media and webpages. Additional skills in shooting and editing photography that can be shared online. Preferred knowledge of WordPress, or another web content-management system, and web editing tools. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of trends in social media, multimedia, and digital publishing techniques; ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work effectively, independently and in a team, with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet aggressive deadlines. Special Requirements: This position requires some night and weekend work, and may require some local travel. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel required.
