Commercial Lines Underwriter Trainee

Job Description:
The Commercial Lines Underwriter Trainee is a closely

supervised, entry-level position in which the incumbent

obtains an understanding of commercial lines

underwriting through both a formal and on-the-job

training program. Within limited authority, the

incumbent demonstrates the ability to effectively

perform the assignments of a Commercial Lines Small

Business Underwriter. Upon the successful completion of

the program, the Commercial Lines Underwriter Trainee is

a candidate for future Small Business Commercial Lines

Underwriter positions within a branch office.

• Bachelor’s degree required, with studies in

insurance / risk management, business, finance or

mathematics preferred

• Good math aptitude;
• Good research, analytical and problem-solving

skills;

• Good oral and written communication skills;
• Good inter-personal skills;
• Good customer service skills
• Good PC skills, with an emphasis on Microsoft Office

Suite;

• Must be a self-starter, with an ability to learn;
• Must be able to maintain acceptable attendance and

adhere to scheduled work hours
