Collections Specialist – June 12 – Start date

The Collection Specialist is accountable for contacting Department of Education student loan customers, endorsers, and co-makers whose accounts are more than 60 days delinquent or critically nearing default. The Collections Specialist is charged with reducing delinquency and securing payments from delinquent customers by effectively communicating the importance of loan responsibility and the consequences of default. The Collections Specialist must counsel delinquent customers on all available repayment and deferment options to assist customers and ensure timely payments. For this position customer contacts are made through both incoming and predictive dialing (outbound) phone calls.

*High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 months of collections or customer service experience

*Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to effectively negotiate with customers to secure commitment to pay.

*Must communicate in a clear and concise manner.

*Demonstrated ability to listen and “hear” the customer’s concern so that the appropriate response is given.

*Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations in order to determine proper delinquency of loans utilizing last payment dates, monthly payment amounts, interest rates and payments received.

*Basic knowledge of Excel.

*Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.

*Ability to work effectively in a team, people, and results oriented environment.

*Position requires extensive use of computer.

*Ability to sit in one place for long periods of time.

*Must be able to obtain appropriate public trust security clearance as required of federal government contractors to include a background check conducted by the U.S. Government to determine eligibility and suitability for federal contract employment for public trust or sensitive positions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

*Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.

*Basic knowledge of Department of Education repayment and deferment options.

*Basic familiarity with Knowledge Share.

*Basic reporting experience.

SCHEDULE:

*This position will begin on Monday, June 12, 2017 with five weeks of required (paid) training, mandatory schedule of Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.

*After training your schedule will be: Monday-Friday, 2 nights 12:00pm-9:00pm, 3 days 8:00am-5:00pm, 1 Friday per month 10:00am-7:00pm, 1 Saturday per month 8:00am-1:00pm.

*Your actual schedule will be determined by the business after completing your new hire training.

The starting rate is $13.50 an hour
