Summary

This position is located in the Packaging Department of the San Francisco Mint.

Responsibilities

As a Coin Assembly Machine Operator , you will:

  • Perform all of the following functions: supply all needed materials; complete a maintenance review prior to machine operation; load coin layers onto slides and inserts, lenses and cartons into magazines; manipulate the computer screens for proper machine operation; clear jams; clean and replace parts; make minor adjustments; off-loading rejects and cartoned coin sets; and perform a manual inspection of the final product.
  • Complete the operation control log that includes: the safety inspection-checking the machine to see that all guards and safety devices are in place and inventory control-documenting and balancing incoming, processed and rejected materials.
  • Observe coin assembly, lens, capsule and cartoning machine operations to ensure that stations are functioning properly.
  • Adjust and make minor repairs to the coin assembly, lens, capsule and cartoning machines, cartoning and robotic machine change over including the replacement of parts which do not require major disassembly, overhaul or major functional testing of equipment.
  • Use pallet jack, work saver or appropriate manual handling equipment to transport coins, coin sets and materials to and from the vault(s), work and storage areas.

    Physical Requirements:

    Work demands repetitive bending, prolonged standing, walking, and stooping as a regular and daily part of the process. Light to moderate physical effort is required to push, pull, lift, and move coins, supplies, equipment, and material. Must have good vision and good hand and eye coordination.

  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis, 5 days a week. Work schedules may vary and assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be available to work on all three shifts on a rotational basis.
  • May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination.

Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three quality level categories, superior, good, and acceptable, depending on your responses to the online questions, regarding your experience, education, and training related to this position. A subject matter expert may be used in the evaluation. Your rating may be lowered if your responses to the online questions are not supported by the education and/or experience described in your application.
