Co-Op, Government Affairs Intern (Section A)

We are currently seeking a student interested in a co-operative education position (Section A) at our World Headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI. This position is a multiple rotational role that will enable the student to alternate between working full-time one semester, and then attend school the following semester. This position may extend beyond one academic school year.

The Government Affairs Project Coordinator will be part of the Corporate Government Affairs organization and work closely with the Manager, Global Economic Development and the Manager, Legislative & Regulatory Affairs. This position will primarily be responsible for managing a database of investment agreements between BorgWarner and various government entities across BorgWarner’s global footprint which covers 65 locations in 17 countries. This database management function will have responsibility for monitoring reporting requirements related to all investment agreements and communicating necessary company actions. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for conducting research on global economic policies in targeted locations and for assisting with legislative and regulatory lobbying reports.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Database Management:

  • Monitors Global Incentive Portfolio database systems to track compliance with reporting milestones and draw attention to upcoming reporting milestones that require company action.
  • Communicates necessary company actions and tracks completion with objective of increasing overall incentive agreement compliance across the Global Incentive Portfolio.
  • Regularly inputs data into Global Incentive Portfolio database systems related to incentive applications, agreements, reports, and benefit awards.
  • Assists in designing processes to improve data collection, management and reporting to ensure real-time accuracy and flexible data use
  • Prepares data visualization tools to assist business leaders in evaluating the Global Incentive Portfolio

Research:

  • Conducts research on, and monitors changes to, economic development policy in strategic global locations
  • Monitors economic development incentive deals in strategic locations for business benchmarking

Reporting:

  • Assists with the upkeep and filing of legislative and regulatory lobbying reports required by various government entities

Safety and Health
Responsible for completing required safety training, reporting and correcting any unsafe practices as appropriate, completing work activities in a safe manner, and complying with safety and health requirements for respective position.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Working toward a degree in economics, public policy, political science, or other relevant course of study
  • 0-2 years of experience working in government affairs with a large organization, for a government entity, economic development organization, or other relevant experience preferred
  • Experience using software-based data management tools
  • Excellent skills in database management and data visualization
  • Understanding of the interactions between economic policymakers, economic development organizations and private firms
  • A proven ability to plan, implement and finish activities to achieve high quality results
  • Passion for continuous process improvement and system optimization
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and collaborative approach including the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization, outside suppliers, and participate on multi-functional teams
  • Ability to manage numerous tasks and projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook

SAFETY

This position will adhere to the Global Star Safety Framework as well as safety rules, use of equipment, protective devices, safety practices, and training which are outlined in the BorgWarner PTC Safety Policy Manual. This individual will work in manners that stress the importance of preventing incidents and illnesses. He/she must take every reasonable precaution for the protection of themselves and coworkers.
