Clinical Coordinator

Overview

Clinical Coordinator will provide technical and implementation oversight for a USG-funded voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) activities for HIV prevention project in districts based in the KZN or Western Cape Provinces. Clinical Coordinator will also work closely with the district clinical teams at sub-district level on activity planning that aligns supply and demand for VMMC services to achieve set targets and coordination with relevant stakeholders, while assuring the quality and safety of VMMC services.

Coordinators may be appointed to serve one or two districts, as such applicants must be prepared to be based at any of the stipulated district areas
. Districts include KZN Province (uMgungundlovu, uThukela, uMkhanyakude, uGu, King Cetshwayo/uThungulu, eThekwini) and Western Cape (City of Cape Town)

Responsibilities

    • Liaise with District Program Manager in the development of strategies in the area of male circumcision for start-up of services, expansion plan, training, supervision, demand promotion
    • Liaise with Program Clinical Manager to promote safety and reporting, management and prevention of complications
    • Provide technical guidance and support strategic coordination for the implementation of clinical activities
    • Coordinate and manage clinical teams to align their efforts to ensure rapid and sustainable results, which includes managing the staff roster and clinical operations
    • Ensure compliance with N/PDOH, USG, PEPFAR, and Jhpiego clinical standards, operational policies, regulations
    • Serve as a day-to-day technical contact for the clinical teams.
    • Collaborate on the writing of monthly, quarterly and annual reports, abstracts, manuscripts and other documents for dissemination of activities
    • Coordinate VMMC Project continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities in collaboration with Sr. Program Clinical Manager
    • Conduct regular routine clinical assessments and supervision visits to sites and activities to strengthen Jhpiego’s clinical systems for the provision of a comprehensive HIV-prevention package including VMMC services
    • Support VMMC field staff to promote linkages to care and treatment services
    • Work in collaboration with program staff to equip the VMMC sites with materials needed to perform large-scale VMMC services with quality and safety
    • Any other tasks as assigned by the District Program Manager
    • Adhere to all project and organization policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Relevant Clinical/Nursing degree with current Health Professions Councils of South Africa (HPCSA) or South African Nursing Council (SANC) registration

  • 5+ years’ work experience, mid to senior-level technical leadership, managing programs experience
  • 2+ years’ high volume VMMC services management experience
  • Demonstrated skills including verbal and written communication, strategic thinking, supply-chain management, and organizational team-building and capacity development
  • Knowledge of USG and PEPFAR programs, regulations, compliance, and reporting (preferred management experience with PEPFAR-funded programs)
  • Thorough understanding of VMMC programmatic and operational best practices, and preferably with Models for Optimizing Volume and Efficiency (MOVE)
  • Excellent diplomacy and stakeholder liaison skills, and experience in working in partnerships to deliver programs
  • Experience in promoting partnerships and relationships with stakeholder groups, particularly the Department of Health
  • Experience supervising staff with strong leadership skills and a supportive management style
  • Ability to work in a complex environment, responsible for multiple tasks and produce high quality results in a short time
  • Computer skills: MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), communication via email/skype
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Additional South African local language preferred
  • Available to travel extensively both nationally and internationally
