In the Winchester Office we have a friendly, sociable and ambitious multi-disciplinary team comprising experienced Engineers and Consultants working in a variety of market sectors. To supplement the existing offering from the office, we are developing an infrastructure team to provide capability to support the existing building and consulting teams and offer skills working in infrastructure in the rail, highways, water and energy sectors. The role will include delivering exciting new business opportunities arising predominantly through our client contacts in the water and coastal sectors as well as other markets in the South of England. We have a good forward workload profile and significant opportunities for interesting and exciting work, with the water and coastal sector being a key strategic area of growth for the team. The role will be supported by the infrastructure team within the Bristol Office.
An exciting opportunity is open to join the infrastructure team in Winchester and play a key role in building the business by delivering a range of projects. We are looking for a technically strong civil engineer with a broad range of experience in all aspects of civil engineering, in particular site development and water sectors, with the skills and enthusiasm to take on an important key technical role, to help grow our infrastructure team within the Winchester Office.
You will already have contributed to a variety of design projects and will be used to producing work to a high calibre. You will be a self-starter, with a strong team ethic. You will have good knowledge in civil engineering design and have similar experience in a design consultancy. Working in project teams to support the Project Manager with design and analysis, you will be given the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects in a multi discipline arena. Role:
We are currently recruiting for a Civil Engineer to join our well-established team. You will work as part of project teams to deliver effective and professional services to our clients. Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of our design teams, you will have the opportunity to work alongside Architects, Structural Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers, Surveyors and Project Managers. Typical responsibilities include:
Working as part of a team to carry out hands on design for a variety of projects
Use of technical analysis and design software packages
Working alongside project managers to support day to day running of projects
Liaison with architects, suppliers and contractors
Attending and contributing to project meetings (internal and external)
Working with the technician team to prepare and produce drawings
Producing reports and correspondence
Resolution of site queries
Site inspections and surveys
Working directly with clients and other professionals with minimum supervision
Co-ordinating and liaising with engineers in other areas of the business in a variety of disciplines
Facilitating and organising meetings and CPD training events to contribute to your own development and the development of others
Representing Arup in links with local schools and universities
Requirements:

Qualifications
Master’s degree qualified (2:1 or above preferred) in a relevant subject e.g. MEng, or equivalent
Well advanced towards gaining chartered status through your chosen professional institution
Essential skills, knowledge and behaviors
Have design experience in all areas of water engineering and site development including utility and drainage design, flood risk assessment, road pavement design and layout, earthworks design, and site procurement issues.
Be up to date with the latest analysis and design software i.e. Microdrainage, Autodesk, BIM, GIS and river modelling analysis packages.
Experience of working in a similar consulting environment
Excellent technical skills combined with practical understanding of site development and construction
Have a good knowledge of a variety of codes, able to easily swap between codes and get to grips with new ones quickly.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and a range of software programmes for design and modelling
Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy in your work
A professional approach with both colleagues and clients
Excellent communication skills; verbal, written, sketching, drawing and presentations
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
Aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive
Excellent planning, organisation and time management skills
Proven success in contributing to a team orientated environment
Highly motivated and willing to learn and take on new challenges, enthusiastic about developing your skills and experiences
Keen to share knowledge and contribute to the development of others
Desirable skills, knowledge and behaviours
Experience of working on construction sites
Experience of working with other disciplines which influence infrastructure design such as Geotechnics
Seek to improve existing ways of working by finding efficiencies in processes
