The Opportunity: The City is currently searching for a highly skilled executive or legal administrative professional to plan, organize and direct the operations and activities of the City Clerk’s Office. The ideal candidate must have knowledge of the Brown Act, Fair and Political Reform Act, and the California Public Records Acts.

TYPICAL DUTIES:
Plans, organizes and directs the operation and activities of the City Clerk’s Office; Prepares Council agendas, provides official public notice of meetings, and supervises the compilation of the Council agenda packets; Plans and directs the recording, publication, indexing and filing of all City Council proceedings; Directs the codification of the Municipal Code (including on-line version); Provides official noticing to meet legal requirements for public hearings, meetings, ordinances and contracts; Records and certifies all ordinances, deeds, resolutions and dedications; Serves as custodian for all official City records; Pursuant to policy, accepts subpoenas for City employees and the City, and claims against the City; Administers oath of office to elected and appointed officials; Coordinates elections and receives petitions relating to initiatives, referenda or recall and takes appropriate action; Prepares and administers department budget; Serves as filing officer for Economic Interest and Campaign Disclosure statements; Attends City Council meetings and attests to, and, when necessary, certifies the final copy of meeting minutes, resolutions, ordinances, contracts and legal documents; Receives insurance certificates, endorsements and bonds; Maintains custody of the City Seal; Supervises administrative and professional staff.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES:
Education : Equivalent to completion of high school, including additional college level coursework or advanced training in secretarial science, office management, and/or records management.

Experience : At least five years’ experience in the performance of executive or legal administrative duties including office management, supervisory experience and records management. Certified or Master Municipal Clerk designation highly desirable. Special Requirements : A valid Class C California driver’s license with a safe driving record.
