Johnson County Public Works is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Chief Surveyor in the Engineering Division in Olathe, KS. This position will serve as County Surveyor, provide survey leadership and project surveys in a fun, collaborative, high performance environment that emphasizes teamwork. Job duties of the Chief Surveyor may include:

  • County Surveyor – Administer the survey control network for Johnson County and make final decisions in survey disputes.
  • Survey Leadership – Provide leadership for survey personnel in the Engineering Division of Johnson County Public Works. Encourage participatory management practices to continuously improve the effectiveness of the organization while maintaining core values. Evaluate any additional training needed and conduct/schedule it accordingly.
  • Surveyor – Serve as a Survey Party Chief/Field Supervisor, to do topographic surveys, construction staking and land surveying for road, bridge, culvert and other projects.

Job Requirements

An Associate’s degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering is required. Five years of surveying experience and a Kansas Land Survey License are also required. The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as well.

Five years of supervisory experience or greater is preferred.

Education can substitute for experience. Experience can substitute for education.
