Job summary:

The Information Management Technology organization is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of programs to develop and maintain Ernst & Young’s global business intelligence and MyBusiness platforms, one of which is Markets Reporting(MR). The team is geographically dispersed and comprises of all disciplines required to deliver IT solutions for our customers, including project managers, business analysts, software engineers, quality assurance & testers and implementation managers. In addition the function works closely with the Enterprise & Solution Architecture and Infrastructure & Operations teams.

The Business Intelligence Data Analysts(BI Data Analysts) is responsible for business process data integration and improvement via the methodical investigation, analysis, review and documentation of all or part of a business in terms of business functions and data integration process. Core outputs are the functional and non-functional requirements specifications; data profiling and process diagrams. The BI Analyst manages the requirements development process through the elicitation, analysis, specification and verification of multiple levels of requirements and data(business, stakeholder, solution) and supports the ongoing management of the requirements.

Within the Markets Reporting(MR) domain of MyBusiness, the BI Analyst requires mastery of Finance, customer engagement client / CRM data processes that support analytics, KPIs, metrics, dimensions, attributes and business processes (including but not limited to, those that ultimately are delivered as reports and data interfaces). Proficiency in related processes such as system analysis, data analysis/profiling, project management, methods & tools and quality assurance is also required.

The BI Analyst must have significant experience in stakeholder relationship management skills to successfully manage the customer and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

•Successfully deliver the requirements required to support the successful implementation of business intelligence projects as part of multi-million dollar, multi-year global business intelligence programs for the IT Services organization through:

•Building the foundation for the development effort by capturing the business context – problem, current state, desired future state, objectives, business needs and impacted user groups

•Developing requirements (business, user and software requirements – functional and non-functional) and establishing traceability matrices

•Managing the requirements through the program lifecycle by establishing and maintaining agreements between the customer and the project team

•Playing a critical communications role by interacting with users (business domain) and with developers and testing personnel (technical domain)

•Ensuring the requirements are specified in a manner suitable for the intended audience and are understandable, unambiguous and capable of being implemented and tested

•Ability to navigate the IT team and business sponsors through a level of ambiguity including business process change; building organization and structure to requirements to drive out and define detailed requirements in an efficient manner; from a position of assertivenes and BI best practice

•Working with the program/project manager and the business customer(s) to define requirements stakeholders, requirements conflict resolution procedures and the requirements team structure

•Understanding the software development approach being used and defining how the requirements development will be conducted (i.e. elicitation, analysis, specification and validation)

•Proficient requirements meeting facilitation, demonstrating experience in facilitating sessions (30+ people) using techniques to help define scope and requirements during the lifecycle through significant subject matter domain experience

•Writing and reviewing business, user and non-functional/system level requirements in the form of Uses Cases, UML, and other appropriate formats appropriate for the business intelligence domain

•Performing data profiling and process analysis to understand key source systems and using knowledge of application features and functions to assess scope and impact of business needs.

•Reviewing and validating QA test plans and supports QA team during test execution. Participate in designing data transformation (source to target mapping/ETL) and data warehouse / Dimensional modeling.

•Responsible for ensuring change control and change management procedures are followed within the program/project as they relate to requirements

•Interfacing and communicating with project teams, management, customers and stakeholders including implementing and working through defined governance processes.

•Coaching and mentoring both customers and project team members in business analysis fundamentals and the benefits to successful program and project delivery through a proven track record and subject matter expertise within the business intelligence domain.

•Ensuring that quality business analysis standards are met as prescribed by IT Services through the effective implementation or use of approved processes, methodologies and deliverables

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

•Selecting the appropriate methods to elicit and document requirements within the business intelligence domain

•Defining the procedures on how the requirements will be managed (base-lining requirements, requirements change control and reqs traceability)

•Assessing change requests related to requirements to assess overall impact

•Determining ‘fit for purpose’ requirements

•Expected to act independently to deliver appropriate program/project requirements to schedule, budget and scope

•Coaches, mentors and supports less experienced business analysts

Qualifications, Education and Certification:

•10+ years in a corporate IT environment

•8+ years experience in business analysis delivering within large global projects

•4+ years experience within business intelligence (Enterprise Reporting, Analytics and Data Warehousing)

•Work experience in a professional services industry, preferred

•Work experience in a global role, preferred

•Proven track record of successful delivery of requirements to time and cost for large, complex business intelligence projects typically $1-$5m in value.

•Demonstrated experience writing and reviewing business, user and non-functional/system level requirements within this domain

•Track record of dealing with challenging stakeholders, developers and architects during facilitated sessions and during the development lifecycle

•Proven customer focus and stakeholder management experience based on openness, trust, and delivering on promises

•Mastery of business analysis methodology, tools and templates appropriate to the business intelligence domain including success at achieving prompt business sign-off for requirements

•Experience in selecting and executing elicitation techniques such as interviews, exploratory prototypes, facilitated workshops, focus groups, observation, user task analysis, documentation study and surveys and overall process re-engineering

•Development and deployment of formal business analysis methods and tools to govern and control business intelligence programs

•Solid understanding of the following requirements models: stakeholder categories, actor tables, glossary, context diagram, data model, class model, data dictionary, event response tables, state diagrams, business rules, decision tables, process maps, use cases, and activity diagrams

•IT background with good SQL skills and experience across the systems development life cycle with experience in all project phases – plan, initiate, elaborate, design, build, test, implement.

•Strong team working skills across matrixed client, supplier and geographically dispersed virtual teams

•Strong communication and interpersonal skills (includes negotiation)

•Excellent written and verbal communication skills – must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing

•National and international travel may be required

•A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; or equivalent work experience

•Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) designation a plus

•Familiarity with ITIL v2 or 3 would be advantageous
