Business Analyst

Job Summary:

Incumbent designs new business solutions for clients to improve business efficiency and productivity. This will involve working closely with internal stakeholders and assisting Senior Analysts/Managers with external stakeholders to examine business needs and to understand any operational constraints, develop models, analyze data flows, discuss findings and design an appropriate solution. Incumbents of this position will support Senior Analysts/Managers with determining business direction and implementing solutions. This position typically works under close supervision and direction.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the capture of business needs and requirements using interviews, document analysis, workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis;
  • Critically evaluate information gathered to reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding of true needs;
  • Assist with the development of internal and external requirements specifications according to standard templates using natural language;
  • Assist with the operation of Critical Applications;
  • Engage in multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously;
  • Draw up and cost specifications and produce outline designs of new IT systems, specifying the data, files and logical operations the system will perform, and the way data will be viewed by the user;
  • Liaise between customer community (internal) and the developers throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Present designs to management and internal customers and, once approved, work closely with the engineering teams to implement the solution;
  • Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish a technical vision, and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance;
  • Produce feasibility reports based on compiled research, advice of subject matter experts and expert judgment;
  • Assist with the identification of solution options and assess them for both technical and business suitability;
  • Create logical and innovative solutions to complex problems;
  • Keep up to date with technical as well as industry sector developments.
  • Oversee performance analytics for contractual key performance indicators. Includes: review and assurance that all inputs are accurate; internal and external review of all inputs; timely reporting to management and customers; continual improvement through further automation

Minimum Job Requirements:

Minimum of four year university degree or equivalent with a minimum of two years business analyst work experience or relevant post-secondary education. Education in business management is very desirable. Certification of Competency in Business Analysis (CCBA) designation a plus. Requires understanding of business practices and experience developing business design documentation. Experience with those of following technologies which directly relate to role is a plus: database management, report design, SQL experience, use case requirements for a multimodal one-account, or financial system configuration of CODA and CCH. Project management familiarity desired. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse groups including managers, and subject matter experts to communicate new ideas/issues. Must be very detail orientated, be able to plan and work flexibly to a deadline, and have strong analytical and problem solving skills. Must be able to travel periodically to customer sites.
