Budget Analyst

The Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a motivated individual to join our Financial Services team and fill the role of Budget Analyst. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, detail oriented, have a high personal standard of integrity, love working with data, and share in our mission of Helping People Live Better Lives.

Examples of Work

Support Aid programs administered within the Department of Health and Human Services. Assist in budget preparation, monitor expenditures against the budget, prepare monthly statistical reports and required federal reports, and respond to requests for information. Develop fiscal estimates for pending legislation and regulation changes. Work with large datasets to extract required information. Perform complex analytical work involving the collection and evaluation of DHHS financial data, budgetary control records and other information concerning DHHS expenditures and revenues. Function as part of a budget team to provide information, projections, advice and solutions to DHHS program management. This position will serve as a liaison between the programmatic and business operations of the various Divisions within DHHS and the DHHS Financial and Accounting Operations to improve outcomes for the agency.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, statistics, business administration or related field and experience performing fiscal and budgetary analysis for major business operations; experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED:

Preferred candidates will possess experience:

  • working with complex budgets and financial operations
  • creating forecasts in a changing environment with limited information
  • analyzing reports and data for accuracy and reconciling variances
  • developing/changing processes to improve financial operations.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Successful candidates will have strong analytical skills, ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Access including charting, graphing and data analysis. Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills; have problem solving/analysis skills; exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses; a high level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation; and strong Microsoft Excel and Database skills.
