Budget Analyst

The Office of Human Resources (HR) is looking for a talented individual to fill a newly created budget analyst position. Reporting to the assistant vice president for human resources, this position oversees the administration of the salary and non-salary budget. Responsibilities
The budget analyst oversees the quality of the HR budget, which exceeds $12M of various restricted and unrestricted funds; proactively collaborates with HR colleagues to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures; and supports office-wide purchasing. The analyst develops and disseminates information; trains on best practices; creates mechanisms for timely and efficient workflow; and produces reports to analyze, model, and project HR’s finances.

The analyst serves as a liaison between HR and the Office of Finance and Treasury and member of the Office of the Executive Vice President’s Financial and Administrative Budget Group.

Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in business or accounting, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience, such as working effectively with financial systems; budget; and reporting, forecasting, and modeling
  • Knowledge of purchasing goods and services
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and adhere to deadlines with attention to data quality
  • Substantial experience using Excel and other Microsoft Office applications and experience with or the ability to learn various financial systems used at Princeton.

The ideal candidate will also have the ability to maintain professional standards with highly confidential and sensitive information; possess impeccable ethics and honesty; and demonstrate the ability to work independently, take initiative, and make decisions. Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills; sound judgment in dealing with ambiguity to make decisions and offer financial guidance; and the creative ability to solve problems and develop procedures and processes are essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired is experience working at Princeton University or in higher education, knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial Management system and/or other business systems used at Princeton University, and familiarity with human resources.
