RedBeeMedia are a global broadcast and media services provider, working with the strongest media brands on the planet. And we are seeking talented Broadcast System Engineers to become part of a team who provide system support to the White City, UK broadcast facility. The Broadcast Systems Engineer will work under the direction of the senior engineer and will carry out tasks such as system maintenance, troubleshooting system faults and MCR duties. The role is shift based, working to an agreed rota, which includes nights, weekends and public holidays.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide system support, maintenance and operational assistance for all the Red Bee Media operations at White City. Responsible for liaising directly with the customer, assuming ownership of issues through to resolution, carrying out the diagnosis and solving of all technical issues, escalating to Senior Engineers or other senior members of the team when necessary in order to achieve this.
  • Exceptional problem solving skills are required to analyse system logs to determine root cause of a fault.
  • To maintain comprehensive records and logs of work done using incident management tools and following appropriate change controls for all planned work
  • To carry out routine maintenance work as defined and agreed with the Senior Engineer
  • Identify potential system failures and weaknesses and proactively advise Senior Engineers or Principals of these, giving recommendation for course of action.
  • Expected to maintain a level of competency, continually focusing on their development on all systems, technologies and operational processes. Establish expertise on specific systems over a reasonable time scale.
  • The ability to understand and work to agreed Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) delivering a professional service.
  • Ability to prioritise work and ensure a professional approach is presented at all times, especially when under operational pressure.
  • Responsible for ensuring technical delivery and acceptable quality for;
  • Incoming and outgoing video and audio;
  • Access Services on specified Linear Services; (Subtitle, AD monitoring, Signing);
  • Data services;
  • signalling data (e.g. SCTE);
  • Interactive Services;
  • Liaise with 3rd Parties over contribution issues and live/amended deliveries, ensuring agreed media delivery format is adhered to.
  • Monitor and manage circuits between Red Bee Media (RBM) and their Third Party providers for contribution and distribution circuits, through both facility lines and Satellite facilities.
  • Line up and prepare outside sources for live transmission and record feeds
  • Set up communication 4 wire circuits via ISDN to enable Playout cueing
  • Manage satellite down linking using local satellite receivers and steerable dishes
  • Being part of a team to carry out system acceptance on new Playout facilities as part of the project handover in to support.
  • Carry out Risk Assessments, Method Statements, COSHH analysis, Portable Appliance testing, MDU maintenance, Manual Handling and operation of standard and non-standard equipment


Person Specification


Experience and Knowledge

  • Familiarisation with the following would be an advantage

    • Snell Advanced Media (SAM) routers and automation systems, including Morpheus and ICE.
    • Axon modular systems
    • Barrcode audio server
    • Studer mixers
    • Riedel talkback
    • Ancillary data types found in television signals.
  • Experience of working in a MCR
  • An understanding of SAN technologies.
  • Knowledge of virtualisation which include Hyper V or VMware
  • A good understanding of SQL databases and network fundamentals
  • Knowledge and experience of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge of broadcast video formats, protocols, and encoding standards
  • Understanding of the workflows and methodologies of Digital Asset Management
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Degree in a technical related subject or equivalent experience in this field
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively with different levels and audiences
  • Ability to organise and prioritise their work ensuring deadlines are met.
