Bridge and Structures Engineer-in-Training

DEA’s Salem, OR office is seeking a Bridge and Structures Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support transportation, transit, and structures related projects. As an EIT you will perform structural analysis and design calculations using AASHTO and other design codes for bridge, transportation, transit, and building and facility structural systems. This includes assisting in the preparation of Planning Studies, Structure Type Selection Reports, final design, plans, specifications, and estimates and contractor’s submittal reviews during construction. Typical projects will include cast-in-place prestressed and reinforced concrete, precast concrete, segmental concrete, and steel girder bridges; retaining walls; sound walls; and timber concrete and steel structures for small buildings and facility structures.

Other duties include:

  • Assisting in bridge rehabilitation projects, including designs, details, & specifications.
  • Assisting with bridge projects by creating concept reports, engineering cost estimates, plan details, and specifications.
  • Developing design calculations and run structure analysis computer models
  • Assisting with the development of engineering drawing details
  • Developing engineering quantity and cost estimates
  • Assisting with condition inspection and load rating of existing bridges
  • Generating and editing bridge inspection reports
  • Assisting with bridge rehabilitation and maintenance projects

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • 0-1 years of applicable bridge design experience
  • Licensed Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Mathcad
  • Bridge inspection experience on in use bridges
  • Physically able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and clear motor vehicle report

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Civil Engineering Cooperative Program (CECOP) intern
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and representative state DOT bridge design standards
  • Proficiency in drafting software applications such as Microstation or Civil 3D
