POSITION SUMMARY
The Big Data Developer works with our business teams and data scientists to identify and develop scalable, enterprise-class, big data and advanced analytics solutions. The successful candidate will work effectively within a development team. He/She will have Oil and Gas experience, particularly in the areas of drilling, completions, geology/geophysics and production, or the desire and capability to learn about this very technical business. He/she should also understand how big data and advanced analytics technology can be applied to solve problems and exploit opportunities, and be able to communicate effectively with non-technical people.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Work with the business owners to ensure that implemented solutions as well as operational activities satisfy business requirements and are delivered in a timely manner
Communicate and work with other IT departments to ensure the needs of business units are met
Provide business customer, enterprise-class solutions utilizing varied relational and real-time data sources
Communicate project status regularly to development team, project manager, supervisor, and stakeholders
Prepare project documentation with and report schedule changes to the project manager or supervisor as needed
Identify open issues and risks and determine action/mitigation plans
Provide technical design consultation for upcoming/developing projects
Transition and provide knowledge transfer to operational support teams upon completion of solutions development
Design and develop data models using the big data platform and apply the best practices for optimal performance of the models
Manage daily activities, which involve working with existing applications and their owners

PREREQUISITES

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics
Minimum 3 years of Big Data technology implementation and development experience (Hadoop, Spark, Cloudera Stack)
Minimum 8 years of experience in a development role
Experience writing unit tests for appropriate application coverage required
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills – experience in analyzing and understanding business/technology system architectures
Strong knowledge of and experience with analytics (e.g. SAS, R), notebooks (e.g. Jupyter), programming (e.g. Python/Java/Scala), and streaming (e.g. Spark)
Ability to learn quickly, understand complex problems, and apply useful solutions to those problems
Experience with big data technologies in a cloud environment strongly preferred
Able to communicate effectively at all levels and in all mediums (formal presentation, written reports, email, IM, verbal)
