The Atlanta Community Food Bank is a nonprofit organization supplying food and grocery items to over 600 partner agencies serving families and individuals in 29 metro Atlanta and North Georgia counties.

Position Description:

The key purposes of the Benefits Screener are to complete benefit screenings in locations determined by the Benefits Manager, and the administrative work that supports those efforts. Our Benefit Screeners will serve clients within the 29 counties that fall within ACFB service area providing emphasis on counties designated as underserved. The Benefit Screener will work a flexible full time hourly schedule and be available to occasionally work weekends and/or evenings as assigned.

Purposes, Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform benefit screening as determined by the Benefits Outreach Manager
  • Performs benefit screening for various government and state programs, including uploading client documents, post screening, to the Document Imaging System.
  • Represent clients as the authorized advocate while applying for benefits – as needed per the situation.
  • Works closely with government entities in program implementation.
  • Provide administrative oversight and follow up.
  • Assist in the coordination of on-going partnerships with agencies, the community, and with other ACFB departments.
  • Performs administrative duties related to program including record keeping and document organization.
  • Provides routine information required for reporting and administrative guidelines of all programs.
  • Maintains confidentiality and abides by HIPAA guidelines
  • Provides world-class customer service internally and externally.
  • Answers questions via phone, voicemail and/or email about organization, public benefits and/or services.
  • Provides addresses, directions and other referral information to ensure each client is able to receive full assistance and/or forward to the appropriate personnel/department as needed.
  • Welcomes on-site visitors and guests.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Benefits Outreach Manager.

  • Community residents and a wide range of public and private partners.

Qualifications

  • Excellent professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of frequently-utilized computer programs such as MS Office Suite, Google Apps, etc.
  • Basic operational knowledge and troubleshooting of office equipment such as shredders, printers and fax machines.
  • Must be dependable, a team player, and work with little supervision
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with a diverse workgroup
  • Strong oral communication skills and public speaking skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations throughout metro Atlanta and/or North Georgia
  • Have car and be able to travel throughout designated area on a regular basis (mileage reimbursed).
  • Excellent time management skills use sound judgment in decision-making in unexpected situations.
  • Weekend and evening availability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Experience with community outreach
  • Experience working with public benefit program

Physical Demands

This position works both in an office-like setting and in the community with approximately 50% of the time spent offsite. There may be extended periods of sitting, standing and/or bending; listening, talking and/or visual concentration; writing and/or computer use. This position would normally have routine opportunities to alter physical position or change eye focus. Lifting should not normally exceed 35 pounds. Travel within the Metro Atlanta and North Georgia area (our 29 counties served) will be required.
