Hotel Versey is a completely renovated modern lifestyle hotel located in the safe and exciting Lincoln Park/Lakeview neighborhood, just three miles north of downtown Chicago. The hotel features a bold design with artwork from Chicago-based artists, as well as a variety of retail outlets and a street-front restaurant & bar opening in late 2018. Located at the iconic intersection of Diversey Parkway, Clark Street and Broadway Street, the new Hotel Versey celebrates the iconic building’s history and serves as a hub for families, the sports oriented, the business-minded, multicultural guests from around the world, and the LGBTQ community.

Position Summary:

  • Welcoming guests to the hotel and ensuring that their luggage is safely stored if necessary.
  • Ensuring that the public areas are clean and safe.
  • Running errands for the front desk staff and managers.
  • Communicating vital information to the guests and making them feel welcome at the hotel.
  • Being familiar with the area outside the hotel as well as the hotel’s restaurant, meeting room, other facilities and amenities, and safety and security measures is an important part of the job.
  • It is through informal conversation that bellmen become key players in the hotel’s sales and marketing efforts. Bellmen should make an extra effort to learn guests’ names. This makes the guests feel more welcome and allows the bellmen to provide more personal service. The guests’ first impression of the hotel is seeing the bellmen and the entrance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Opening doors and assisting guests upon arrival.
  • Helping guests load and unload luggage from their vehicles.
  • Escorting guests to the registration area.
  • Working and communicating with valet personnel.
  • Hailing taxis upon request.
  • Snow removal and spreading salt.
  • Performing light housekeeping services in the public areas. Ensuring that the bellman’s station is always clean and neat as well as the front of the hotel – removing trash and cigarette butts from the planters and sweeping the front. Cleaning of glass doors in the lobby and at the entrance as needed.
  • Familiarize guests with the hotel’s safety features, as well as the guestroom and any in-room amenities.
  • Provide a secure area for guest’s requiring temporary luggage storage.
  • Provide information on hotel services and facilities.
  • Deliver mail, packages, messages, faxes and special amenities to guestrooms.
  • Running minor errands for front desk and/or hotel managers.
  • Making routine security checks in the building once per hour and making sure that no unwanted people are in the hotel.
  • Taking irons and ironing boards to guest rooms and keeping a log for such. Always ensuring that all items are returned at the end of each bellman’s shift.
  • Making sure that all bellmen keys are returned to the front desk at the end of each shift.
  • Follows and complies with all hotel policies.

Prerequisites:

Education & Experience:

No special schooling is required. However, common courtesy, politeness, and manners are required at all times. The person must know that he or she is employed to serve and please the guest. Being friendly and helpful are some key criteria for this position

Physical:

Requires lifting and carrying of luggage up to approximately 40 pounds, bending, standing, walking, stooping, fingering, reaching, grasping, writing, verbal communications, visual activity. Must exert well paced mobility when running errands. Also required to endure hot or cold weather when specific duties force him or her to be in front of the hotel.
