Bank Reconcilation Accountant

The Treasury Section of the Finance and Business Operations Division is seeking a technically-skilled, clever problem-solver to be our next Bank Reconciliation Accountant . We are looking for someone with a love for numbers and a strong background in bank reconciliation, who finds the work interesting and rewarding. Our ideal candidate is a well-rounded communicator who knows how to establish strong peer relationships, as well as effective professional relationships with internal and external customers and business partners.

Job Duties:

  • Performing daily, monthly and year-end reconciliations for County bank accounts. Identifying unknown items, researching outstanding transactions, making necessary corrections/adjustments and following up on any unusual or unresolved outstanding reconciliation items.
  • Resolving difficult and unusual banking situations. Responding to escalated questions from agencies, districts and banks.
  • Providing training and serving as subject matter expert on bank account reconciliations.
  • Identifying areas of process improvement to increase efficiency, including assisting the Cash Management Banking Senior Accountant in the development of a County-wide bank reconciliation process.
  • Assisting with special projects and responding to audit requests.
  • Monitoring, advising, and instructing preparers on correct input of cash entries into the Oracle EBS system
  • Review journal entries and cashier deposits
  • Back up warrant desk

Qualifications:

  • Experience researching bank entries including ACH and wire transfer payments to ensure they are recorded correctly
  • Experience working with a treasury workstation and automated financial systems such as Oracle, SAP, JDEdwards, etc.
  • Skill in monitoring internal controls and identifying potential issues
  • Intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience providing excellent customer service and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience speaking and writing clearly and succinctly with a wide variety of audiences in varied communication settings
  • Use analysis to solve difficult problems with effective solutions, and be able to identify problems that may not be initially obvious,
  • Take initiative to complete necessary tasks or improvements and meet deadlines, and hold yourself accountable for producing timely, high quality work product,
  • Work in a sometimes pressured environment, under tight deadlines, while maintaining composure,
  • Exhibit strong customer service skills, and the willingness and ability to troubleshoot problems as they arise,
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with a wide variety of work-groups, including customers, peers, consultants and contractors in a courteous and professional manner,
  • Read situations quickly and resolve conflict through focused listening and the identification of common ground.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Accounting Degree (Associates or higher)
  • CTP – Certified Treasury Professional or CPA – Certified Public Accountant
  • Multiple years of experience with bank reconciliations and other balance sheet accounts
  • Experience with an enterprise-wide financial system, especially Oracle

Other Position Information:

Incumbents in this position are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 117 – Professional and Technical unit. Our successful candidate will be required to join the union and pay union dues. This position is overtime-eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek; normally 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This recruitment may be used to fill other vacancies within this job classification for the next 6 months.
