Automotive Wire Harness Design Engineer

Lumenance is seeking qualified Automotive Wire Harness Design Engineers to join our team. We request anyone who feels they fulfill the following requirements to submit their resume with a cover letter. We are looking for engineers with prior vehicle product development experience in the automotive industry. We currently have full-time positions available for candidates who have a full understanding of automotive electrical systems. Included are electronic sub-systems, design of wire harnesses, mounting brackets, packing of ECUs and modules, and starting / charging systems. The candidates must be capable of contributing to a fast-paced, project development environment for automobile design and manufacturing.

This position will initially be based in Central Ohio, USA where the candidate will provide ongoing support to a Lumenance customer in Raymond, Ohio for the foreseeable future. While travel is not expected, there is a possibility future relocation within the United States may be required based upon Lumenance’s growing needs and customer demand. Lumenance will cover future relocation expenses when applicable. Salary will be commensurate with skills and abilities and start at $80,000 annually based on the qualifications set forth below.

Duties

Technical Responsibilities

  • Study, modify, and create new electrical wire harness systems for ad hoc mule vehicle testing.
  • Design brackets (both plastic and metal) as needed to attach electrical components.
  • Package electrical control ECUs within the vehicle based on customer requirements.
  • Design packaging for battery and charging / starting components.
  • Determine whether new or modified electrical system components and harnesses need to be created, using base-vehicle documentation to provide initial parts for mule vehicle testing.
  • Modify and create new wire harness layouts to comply with new system requirements resulting from testing.
  • Ability to understand and create electrical system schematics and data sheets.
  • Create high-quality drawings according to design schedule to maintain overall vehicle development activities.
  • Release drawings as required at each milestone during project phase.
  • Develop hardware / software architecture diagrams as needed.
  • Ability to present concepts to customers.
  • Prior experience with documentation and specific definition of system specifications.
  • Ability to review and understand device and component technical datasheets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, focused on Mechanical, Electromechanical, or related engineering field of study.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing wire harnesses and associated components.
  • At least 5 years (7,500 hours) of CATIA v5 overall design experience.
  • CATIA v5 Workbenches: GSD, Sheet Metal Design, Part Design, Assembly Design, Drafting.
  • Knowledge of bracket stress and fatigue simulation analysis is a plus (ANSYS, LS-DYNA, etc.).
  • Knowledge of plastic injection molding process is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Zuken or Mentor Graphics circuit design is a plus.
