    Responsibilities

    If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing expert auditing and accounting services in support of Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigations.

    Typical work assignments include:

    • Planning and conducting complex audits to assist OCDETF investigators and prosecutors determine how drug organizations launder and conceal their illicit profits
    • Compiling and preparing reports of findings, including recommendations and exhibits
    • Applying applicable laws to decision-making regarding the direction and scope of audits
    • Assisting attorneys in trial preparation

    Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

    Qualifications

    In order to qualify for this position, you must meet both of the following (A&B), as described below:

    A. Basic Qualifications

    Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.")

    OR

    Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant’s background must also include one of the following:

    Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;

    A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or

    Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant’s education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.

    B. Minimum Qualifications

    In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements described above, applicants must also meet the minimum requirements for the GS-13 grade level listed below:

    For the GS-13 level, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped you with the competencies needed to perform the job duties. Examples of specialized experience are: Conducting investigations to determine whether there have been violations of various Federal Statutes governing financial and business activities, e.g., bank fraud, securities fraud, commodities fraud, racketeer influenced corrupt organization (RICO), mail and wire fraud; Preparing concise and accurate audit reports; Examining and analyzing books, records, computer tapes, data processing materials, and other evidence of the activities of business entities and persons under investigation.

    Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.     Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. It is your responsibility to timely provide such evidence by submitting proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency with your application materials.
