Business Unit Overview:
The Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA) group performs the risk management activities and quantitative analysis functions at BlackRock. RQA’s principal responsibility is to ensure that the risks in the portfolios managed by BlackRock are fully understood by our portfolio managers and consistent with our client’s objectives and to know the risks by thoroughly understanding the investments and providing the best analytics and tools. The group helps portfolio managers apply proprietary techniques for portfolio construction. RQA works closely with portfolio managers and business heads on a daily basis. The team also provides independent risk oversight for senior management of the firm and the board of directors.

The BlackRock Alternatives investment team manages over $150 billion invested in portfolios spanning Hedge Funds, Hedge Fund of Funds, Private Equity, Real Estate and Infrastructure. This role will initially focus on Private Equity and Infrastructure investments with focus in Latin America. The successful candidate will be responsible for the risk management of investment portfolios and the development of state-of-the-art analytical tools. They will also have significant exposure to senior management across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking individuals who can combine strong analytical capabilities and communication skills to solve challenging problems in investment management working under the direction of senior risk managers in the Alternatives area, with focus on Real Assets portfolios. People who successfully demonstrate these skills can ultimately go on to a wide range of professional opportunities within RQA and BlackRock. Key responsibilities include:

Prepare materials for and participate in meetings between RQA and portfolio managers to discuss risk and performance of specific assets and portfolios.

Assist in creating investment risk analyses and reports for portfolio managers and senior management of RQA.

Conduct portfolio reviews alongside senior risk managers to ensure a thorough evaluation of portfolio risk

Conduct research and assist in analyzing/assessing risk of proposed debt or equity investments in Real Assets.

Perform financial statement analysis, corporate financial modeling and enterprise valuation reviews of proposed or existing assets

Review funds, portfolio companies and asset performance against original investment projections. Compare results relative to benchmarks or comparable peers. Apply risk management, modeling and scenario analysis techniques to assets/portfolios.

Develop insightful analytics and proprietary techniques for risk, performance measurement and performance attribution for Real Assets. Collaborate with the investment and technology teams to implement enhancements.

Partner with BlackRock Solutions to create “state-of-the-practice” risk analytics and apply these and other statistical techniques to analyze portfolio risk-taking

Assist in reputation risk screening of borrowers

Knowledge / Experience Required:
We are seeking qualified candidates with a particular emphasis on the following experience:

Previous work experience in the financial services industry required; previous illiquid investments and/or investment risk management experience preferred

Experience evaluating and monitoring investments in Latin America

Skills / Qualifications Required:
Undergraduate or Graduate degree in an analytical, financial and or technical major (e.g. economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science, etc.).

Strong knowledge of financial statement analysis, corporate finance modeling and enterprise valuation techniques

GARP, PRMIA, CAIA, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is a plus

Proficiency in Spanish

Competencies:

Robust quantitative skills along with demonstrated analytical ability.
