Xcel Energy is looking to fill an Associate Land Surveyor for the Carlsbad, NM location.

Summary

This is an entry level position designed to develop technical expertise in a particular area of specialty. The Associate Land Surveyor will be responsible for performing in house surveys, and deals directly with the determination of property lines, easements, and encroachments. This person also gives direct support to various other departments within Xcel Energy pertaining to land issues and questions. Performs work that involves relatively few complex features for which there are precedents. Activities are of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in the specific narrow area of assignments. May lead small-medium, non-critical projects and/or provide field oversight of critical projects under direction of higher level surveyor or supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the actual field surveying activities, including but not limited to performing the initial plan and profile survey, topographic survey, boundary survey and construction staking. Perform various types of boundary surveys such as Certificate of Survey, Registered Land Surveys or Certified Survey Maps at the request of various departments within the Xcel Energy company. These surveys must meet the informational needs of the requesting department as well as the legal requirements of the particular state.
  • Research land records and identify/resolve physical problems in the field expediently. Examples include property corners that do not fit the plat or legal description and boundary lines, which are different from the existing occupation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of GPS technology, and understand the use of this technology in the performance of surveys and productivity improvement. Records all survey data via electronic data collectors in the field, which can be downloaded to computers, process the data and develop functional information from the field data.
  • Assist with the determination of the methods of survey to meet the accuracies and procedures determined by the laws of the state in which the work is being done.
  • Assist with necessary administrative tasks associated with the survey work including, but not limited to, filing easements, maintaining files and records, and other duties as assigned.

Required

Bachelor’s degree in surveying, survey engineering or a related engineering field; or, Associate’s degree or Technical Degree with 3 years relevant experience; or, 6 years relevant experience with no degree

Preferred

  • SIT/FS (Surveyor in Training/Fundamentals of Surveying) preferred
