Associate Director of Development, Intercollegiate Athletics

Looking to add a driven, energetic development officer to our dynamic 16-member athletics development team committed to success for UI student-athletes and working with a dedicated base of fans, alumni, and letterwinners to advance the UI’s 24 Division I athletics programs. The recently completed University-wide For Iowa Forever More campaign resulted in a total of $1.975 billion in gift commitments, with athletics raising over $273 million during the eight-year campaign. With an annual fund of over $17 million and 16,500 annual contributors, Iowa Athletics enjoys a strong base of support from our alumni and ticket holders, making the Tigerhawk one of the most recognizable brands in college athletics. In addition, Hawkeye Athletics has an ambitious athletics facilities master plan, with more than $200 million in facility improvements on the horizon, including an $89 million renovation to historic Kinnick Stadium. Successful candidates will demonstrate an understanding of and appreciation for intercollegiate athletics—particularly Hawkeye Athletics—and their role in a complex academic environment.

In cooperation with supervisor, plans, initiates, manages, and implements fundraising for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, primarily developing strategies for increasing major gifts in these areas. Actively works with UI Athletics senior management on capital campaigns, endowments, and other athletics initiatives. Assists athletics leadership and supervisor to maximize revenue generation strategies for major gifts and premium seating. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

Facilitates the movement of major gift prospects through the donor continuum including the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of such prospects. This activity will focus on presenting quality proposals of $50,000 or more and will be part of managing a major gift prospect portfolio of 75-125 prospects. Specific objectives will be developed and agreed upon annually with the supervisor. This activity will be coordinated according to the UI Foundation’s Prospect Management Policy.

Identifies, develops, and implements major gift strategies for assigned areas in cooperation with the UI’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and UIF management.

Works with supervisor to develop a yearly fundraising plan and goals for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Develops and implements appropriate stewardship activity for donors within assigned areas. This will include acknowledgement of letters from the UIF and appropriate Department of Intercollegiate Athletics staff as well as publicity of gifts when appropriate and other donor relation efforts for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Maintains an awareness and understanding through continuing education and interaction with colleagues at other institutions, of trends, developments, and new fundraising techniques, especially as related to Athletics fundraising.

Participates in general Foundation activities including staff task forces and committees, Presidents Club assemblies and outreach activities, Foundation Board meetings, and University-wide fundraising efforts as assigned.

Conducts fundraising activities according to the established procedures, policies, and standards of the Foundation and works closely with supervisor to assure that the fundraising programs are operated in accordance with the procedures, goals, and needs of the department and has the full support, cooperation, and involvement of the University of Iowa’s (UI) Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Adheres to the rules and regulations of the University, the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA; commits to reporting any Big Ten or NCAA violations involving the University of Iowa to departmental compliance personnel.

Performs other responsibilities reasonably related to this position. QUALIFICATIONS :

Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience: Minimum of three to five years of experience in fundraising, sales, ticketing, marketing, or advertising, preferably in an intercollegiate athletics or professional sports environment (or similar/related experience).

Special Skills: Must have superior written and verbal communication skills. Position travels frequently (60%) in the Midwest and nationally, including evening and weekend work-related activities and working all home football games.
