ASSOCIATE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

Under general supervision of the NSE Supervisor, plan, design, and oversee engineering of campus telecommunications infrastructure and multimedia systems. Work independently or in conjunction with the campus Design and Construction Management Department; act as the project manager for major campus telecommunications projects. Work with Registrar on General Assignment Classroom Architecture and Planning supporting over 100 classrooms. Provide consulting services directly to campus clients. Oversee work performed by contract consulting, and engineering (network and multimedia) firms, and installation contractors. Provide technical assistance other CR and IT units on existing network infrastructure.

Physical Demands:

Climb ladders, bend, crawl, stoop, and work in tight, confined spaces.

Work Environment:

Posses a valid California Driver’s license and subject to DMV pull-notice System.

Possess certification as a Registered Communications Distribution Designer, RCDD.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

-Experience planning, estimating, budgeting, and managing multiple telecommunications projects of varying complexity and scope.

-Experience planning, designing, engineering, and installing telecommunications infrastructure including Outside Plant, structured cabling, voice/data networking equipment, and AV systems.

-Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings.

-Knowledge of EIA/TIA and BICSI standards, National Fire Protection Code including the National Electric Code, grounding, bonding, power, and protection of telecommunications plant and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Technical expertise in the field of multimedia networks and control systems.

-Experience in video routing.

-Experience with Microsoft Project or other project management software.

-Experience with software programs: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Visio.

-Organizational skills to determine priorities, delegate responsibilities, exercise independent judgment, and take applicable action to resolve problems.
