Assistant Division Director

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is looking for an individual to fill a leadership position within the Division. This position will administer human services programs; research, develop and implement Medicaid home and community based waiver programs; hire and supervise Division staff; organize, monitor and administer policies and procedures of community-based developmental disabilities services to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations; oversee and administer programs, grants, rates and budgets; manage accreditation and certification of community based ID/DD support providers; serve as a liaison on interdepartmental and interdisciplinary teams and work groups; and effectively communicate the goals and philosophies of the Department and Division.

This position requires occasional in and out-of-state travel including evenings, nights, and weekends.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:


Degree in social work, psychology, sociology, business/public administration or other human service related field with at least one year of administrative and/or supervisory experience.

Knowledge of:

  • theories and concepts related to social work, psychology, human services and disability practices;
  • services and supports for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities;
  • person centered practices and people first language;
  • management, personnel management, and supervisory principles;
  • business and administrative practices and procedures;
  • development and administration of budgets and grants (preferred, but not required);
  • current and innovative disabilities services;
  • human service programs;
  • state and federal laws, rules and regulations relating to intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Skill to:

  • communicate effectively;
  • motivate others and build teams;
  • display confidence and innovation in meeting department and division goals;
  • exercise independent judgment within established guidelines;
  • manage time effectively.

Ability to:

  • prepare clear and concise documentation, reports, and correspondence;
  • effectively manage/supervise program staff.
