Assistant Director of Student Activities – Orientation

The University of Indianapolis’ Office of Student Affairs is seeking an Assistant Director of Student Activities. This is a full-time, exempt staff position that will be required to work daytime and some nights/weekends.

The Assistant Director of Student Activities provides oversight for campus programs, orientation, and student organizations, including coordinating, supervising, and evaluating a full range of activities and programs for the student body.

Responsibilities:

•Co-advise the Campus Programming Board ( CPB ) in planning social, cultural, educational, and recreational programs, as well special events such as homecoming, student organization fairs, senior week, and midnight breakfast

•Develop, plan, and implement all new and transfer undergraduate orientation programs working collaboratively with Academic Affairs

•Co-advise the Indianapolis Student Government ( ISG )

•Manage Registered Student Organization functions including, but not limited to: recognition process, contracts & waivers, policies, fundraising approval, and budget oversight

•Facilitate training for student organization leaders, including an annual club leader training, as well as ongoing monthly development opportunities throughout the academic year

•Advise Student Leadership Council and class officers

•Manage or oversee budgets for orientation, welcome week, CPB , and ISG

•Supervise orientation leader student employees

•Assess and evaluate planned programs

Required Education/Experience/Skills (Minimum Qualifications)

•Master’s degree in a related field or active progress towards degree completion required; Student Affairs/Higher Education preferred

•Experience in the area of event planning and student programming

•Strong commitment to teamwork, customer service, ethical leadership, and student development

•Demonstrate knowledge of program development and implementation, advising, and group dynamics as necessary to perform the duties designated by this position.

•Demonstrated leadership, organization, and management; an ability to oversee a wide variety of activities; ability to work independently or as a team.

•Financial management skills

•Previous experience with student orientation

•Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully resolve conflict, both verbally and in written form
