Assistant Director of Development

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Institutional Advancement for the College of Education, the Assistant Director (ADOD) will devise strategies and be responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with the purpose of advancing donor levels with gifts up to $25,000 on an annual basis. The ADOD will be responsible for working with internal departments within the College of Education and the Director of Account Compliance within Institutional Advancement to ensure donor established scholarships are distributed in accordance with endowed and term gift agreements.

Working under the direction and guidance of the Assistant Dean, the ADOD will be the primary liaison for the College of Education’s Alumni Association Board. The ADOD will be expected to assist in setting the goals of the alumni board in engaging other alumni to grow our network of volunteers and grow their involvement with our current students and the College community. As an extension to this responsibility, the ADOD, in collaboration with Temple’s Alumni Relations staff, the College of Education’s Office of Career and Student Development & Special Events, and/or Temple Teachers Network, the ADOD will be responsible for identifying, developing, and managing meaningful engagement/volunteer opportunities at the College with the goal of increasing alumni engagement.

As part of ADOD’s overall portfolio, the position will manage the semi-annual production and distribution of the Educator, the College of Education’s magazine. This specific task will involve outreach to internal College faculty and colleagues to learn about their current work/research. Additionally, information learned from these interactions will assist in identifying identify funding opportunities within the College. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of three years fundraising, sales or other related experience, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate and work with high wealth individuals
  • Ability to develop and sustain collaborative and supportive relationships with internal and external colleagues and prospects, and maintain a positive and constructive attitude while solving problems
  • A driven, self-starter who exhibits intellectual curiosity, is goal oriented, and can effectively build trust and establish partnerships with a diverse group of individuals and personalities
  • Fluency with database systems, Excel, Word and other standard programs
  • Demonstrated success with developing and sustaining relationships with key donors, volunteer leadership, and senior staff
  • Ability to persuasively articulate the vision and mission of the Temple University and the College of Education
  • Interest in education topics and the educational system, particularly as it relates to Urban Education
  • Demonstrated creativity and strategic thinking with the ability to take initiative and the willingness to learn
  • Flexibility and willingness to adjust to a dynamic University work environment
  • Superb oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel and work evening and weekend hour

Preferred:

  • Experience in higher education setting
  • This position requires a background check
