Our Story

As trusted business advisors, the Accounting Business Services organization operates as a functionally aligned shared services center responsible for the end-to-end transactional financial operations across Turner’s domestic businesses. The organization is comprised of three teams: Operations & Personnel Services, Revenue Services, and Procure to Pay. Accounting Business Services further supports the Finance & Accounting mission to be collaborative business partners to our colleagues for the benefit of our stakeholders.

What part will you play?

The Assistant Controller leads the Capital, Global Real Estate and Enterprise Infrastructure Services accounting teams. The Capital team is responsible for the accounting of fixed assets for all domestic business units and certain international business units within Turner Broadcasting and fixed assets associated with the Time Warner Corporate Enterprise Shared Initiative (ESI). This team provides full service accounting related to fixed assets including acquisition, migration into service from CIP, depreciation, retirement and the financial reporting associated with those assets. The Global Real Estate (GRE) team is responsible for the accounting and reporting for Time Warner’s real estate and facilities operations. The GRE team is also responsible for evaluating all domestic leases for proper accounting treatment. The Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) team provides accounting and reporting for Time Warner’s enterprise-wide information technology services.

What will you be doing?

  • Oversee and manage accounting functions to include: maintaining the general ledger, fixed asset ledger, journal entry processing, account reconciliations, and intercompany accounting.
  • Plan and execute the month end close process to ensure accuracy, integrity, and completeness.
  • Review and approve work product to ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Analyze Turner’s financial position with respect to profits, trends, and costs, and report findings and recommendations to Senior Finance and Accounting Management.
  • Provide value-added ad hoc financial reports and analysis for diverse audiences.
  • Perform complex technical accounting research to provide management with timely information for decision making.
  • Prepare, present, and provide insight to highly complex and technical financial issues or questions.
  • Provide leadership to a team of 15 professionals through effective goal setting, delegation, and communication.
  • Hold regular and recurring staff meetings with direct reports to communicate changes to initiatives, policies and procedures, and ensure staff are informed of company goals and objectives.
  • Build, foster, and maintain good working relationships with members of the Accounting Business Services and stakeholders.
  • Evaluate all capital projects to ensure compliance with company accounting policies and provide accounting guidance to the business
  • Evaluate and provide accounting guidance on all domestic leasing activities

What do we require from you?

  • 4-year degree in Accounting and Finance.
  • 7+ years of accounting experience required (industry or public), including at least 4 years of supervisory experience.
  • CPA is strongly preferred.
  • Masters degree is preferred.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, proactive, deadline-oriented, and exhibits a team player attitude at all times.
  • Initiative, independent problem solving abilities, ownership of work product, and strong leadership qualities.
  • Detail-oriented and high energy.
  • In-depth experience with process analysis and improvement.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to manage the accounting activities for multiple diverse businesses.
  • Strong execution skills, advanced analytical skills, and significant technical accounting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to articulate key information.
  • Unceasing curiosity and the courage to challenge the status quo.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred experience:

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word & PowerPoint.
  • Technical accounting research and memo writing.
  • Blend of both public and industry experience.
  • Fixed asset and lease accounting experience a plus

Desired experience:

  • PeopleSoft Financials, Hyperion, or any ERP systems.
  • Experience in forecasting/budgeting.
  • Media industry.
