Assistant Controller

Job Summary : LFS Inc. is looking for a driven, dynamic individual to join our team as the Assistant Controller. This unique position offers the right candidate an opportunity to work closely with the CFO to develop a set of internal controls and accounting procedures, build an excellent accounting and admin team, and create monthly reports to inform management of the financial condition of the company while making recommendations to assist management in achieving company goals and objectives.

Essential Functions :

  • Supervise employees performing accounting, A/R and A/P functions.
  • Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing.
  • Prepare the monthly consolidated financial statements.
  • Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances including timely reconciliations of all key general ledger balances.
  • Prepare regular analysis and insights on variance to budget, prior year, etc.
  • Assist with the annual budget process.
  • Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  • Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Monitor financial activities and details to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statues.
  • Assist with the annual physical inventory compilation and reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Utilization of the accounting IT system to facilitate processes and maintain records.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Four year accounting degree; four to five years related experience in a manufacturing and/or retail environment. Public accounting experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

CPA or CMA preferred.

Special Training/Skill:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, financial reports, legal documents, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Special Training/Skills (Computer):

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of accounting software, email, spreadsheet software, and word processing software, Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hand to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, speak, write and understand English, use decision making skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork, perform advanced math, use independent judgment and discretion. The employee is occasionally required to use creativity, customer service, negotiate, train, teach and mentor.
