ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

Charged with overall revenue reporting, statistical analysis, and financial compliance responsibilities of the Sandia Resort and Casino, Bien Mur Market Center, Sandia Lakes, and Bien Mur Travel Center (referred to as the “Enterprises”) operations departments. Provides direction, management, and leadership in the operational, administrative, business planning, budgeting, and automation efforts of Sandia Resort & Casino. Leads, directs, and manages the Revenue Audit department in order to produce accurate, timely and relevant financial and statistical information for the Enterprises.

Supervision Exercised

Supervised by the Controller. Supervises the Revenue Audit Manager and the Food & Beverage Cost Manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates the revenue reporting operations of the organization, to include the development and administration of internal controls and processes in order to maintain the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of the reported financial data.
  • Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals in accordance with regulations, company goals, and GAAP.
  • Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes hiring, work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance; provides guidance and feedback for assigned staff.
  • Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of Revenue Audit department.
  • Assists the Controller with the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and informational reports; presents recommendations for changes related to the operational divisions.
  • Manages and oversees external and internal audits as they relate to the revenue audit function.
  • Ensures accounting processes and financial reports are in compliance with GAAP.
  • Assists the Controller with review and analysis of month end General Leger reconciliation and documentation.
  • Meets and communicates with Department Managers and Directors in order to provide support, reports, and general assistance in regards to their financial data.
  • Assists Controller and Director of Finance in the formulation, and compilation of budgets.
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of Resort and Casino operations, procedures, and industry standards.
  • Ensures compliance with company, Tribal, Federal, and State policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and reporting requirements.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned and necessary.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent computer skills, especially in spreadsheets and accounting software.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and competently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate sensitive work under strict deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and move from one task to another easily and quickly.
  • Ability to exhibit strong initiative and motivational commitment to the organization.
  • Ability to use sound and efficient judgment in handling documents.
  • Ability to use discretion in working with sensitive and confidential records.
  • Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience

    Required:

  • High School Diploma, GED certification or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in an accounting, finance, or related field including four (4) years in a management and/or administration capacity of an operational or accounting department.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Preferred:

  • CPA License.
  • Licensing Status

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required Gaming License.
  • Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening.
