Applications Engineer

Job Description:

The Applications Engineer is involved in pre-sales system analysis, system configuration, system installation at customer site, and support of our systems that serve various data acquisition and control markets. The Application Engineer is required to develop competency in the application of all aspects of the capabilities of our company’s products and to become familiar with applicable process control technology associated with installations at customer facilities. This position requires a highly motivated, quick thinking, analytical problem solver with excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Position Responsibilities:

-Assist sales in the development of preliminary and final system proposals and participate in meetings with customers.

-Communicate with customers to obtain specific system and reporting requirements for each installation.

-Design and configure systems to meet customer requirements within the framework of our QA/QC policies.

-Travel as needed to install system and provide user training at customer location.

-Work with customers to analyze and resolve system problems in a mutually satisfactory manner. Consult with other engineers and/or supervisor to resolve difficult problems.

-Schedule and confirm delivery of replacement parts or new software to resolve customer support issues.

-Complete all paperwork as required to track time and expenses associated with work performed on a customer order.

-Keep accurate and timely records of all customer interactions in customer database and customer files.

-Participate in and initiate efforts to improve system production methods and procedures.

-Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Requirements:

-Develop and maintain competency on all features of our product line to optimally support and configure systems.

-Obtain a working understanding of process control technology applicable to our systems’ usage in customer installations and as needed to communicate with process engineers and instrumentation technicians at customer locations.

-Remain current on PC system configurations and those aspects of LAN and WAN operation necessary to install and maintain our equipment on existing customer networks.

-Develop an understanding of and remain current on communication technologies used in configured systems, e.g. OPC, Modbus, RS-232/RS-485, Ethernet, TCP/IP, etc.

Physical Requirements:

-Lifting up to 40 pounds (computers, monitors, other equipment, etc.)

-Sitting 6-8 hours daily

-Mobility – able to travel.

-Good vision – sufficient to work productively with standard computer monitors

-Good hearing – sufficient for telephone and face-to-face communication

-Good speech – sufficient for telephone and face-to-face communication

-Good hand coordination – sufficient for legible writing, accurate typing, and connecting electronic and computer components.

Travel Requirements:

-Travel is required, mainly to locations in the US and Canada. Travel will be as needed for system installation, customer training, and customer support. Trips are normally 3-5 days in length although very occasionally 1-2 week trips are necessary. Travel once every 2 months can be expected as an average.

Required Qualifications:

-Strong computer skills including knowledge of standard business computer applications (i.e. MS Office).

-Basic programming competency for implementation of control and data manipulation algorithms.

-Basic knowledge of chemistry.

-Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.

-Must be organized with the ability to define priorities

-Ability to work on multiple projects at once.

-Excellent interpersonal skills along with excellent written and verbal communications skills.

-Willingness and ability to meet requirements for subcontractors on industrial facilities including: tests for working in and around hazardous environments, personal grooming standards, on-demand drug tests, etc. Must submit to and maintain drug free standing under the random drug testing performed by DISA on our company’s behalf. The initial screening is a pre-requisite for employment.

-Valid Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record.

Desired Qualifications:

-BS Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or related discipline.

-Basic background in and understanding of analog/digital circuitry.

-Experience with PLCs and PLC software is a plus.

-Experience using a structured Programming language such as Basic, C, C* or Java.Job
