As a Software Developer on our Current Engineering team, you will work to quickly troubleshoot and solve technical customer issues by fixing and improving upon our current code base. The Software Developer in Current Engineering will quickly and accurately troubleshoot, debug, fix and resolve customer-related code defects in an independent and autonomous manner. You will collaborate with Customer Support to triage and provide unique solutions to varying customer issues. You will also contribute to new quarterly product release and monthly Service Packs by resolving defects and improving code quality.

Other requirements and responsibilities include:

  • Quickly gain a broad understanding of the entire Oracle RightNow product suite, and a deep understanding of the design, implementation, code and functionality of a few specific product areas
  • Quickly analyze issues and distill into its component parts, identifying steps to resolution
  • Help achieve department goals for on-time product releases, overall quality, defect resolutions, etc.
  • Work together with a small team to help ensure projects are completed on schedule
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and work with other developers to collaborate and quickly resolve critical issues
  • Work closely with developers from other groups to ensure code fixes are done in appropriate fashion and will not affect other areas of the product
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the development team, the other departments and managers across the company
  • A great ‘can do’ attitude with a passion for quality.
  • This position will also provide support for CE product delivery.
    • Requires knowledge of Linux
    • Ability to review & modify python scripts
    • Will build and deliver SP’s and Hotfixes when primary Product Delivery is unavailable

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Background

  • BS in Computer Science
  • Strong SQL/database skills, particularly with MySQL
  • Strong SOAP skills
  • Strong Linux skills
  • Passion for problem solving and troubleshooting code
  • Self motivated to drive issues to completion
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • A highly organized individual who works well under pressure to complete tasks to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated past experience in code integration or troubleshooting production issues
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly identify and fix defects in code authored by others
  • Demonstrated proficiency in two or more of the following:
    • C/C++
    • .NET, C#, and WPF skills
    • PHP frameworks (CodeIgniter, Zend, Cake, etc)
    • AJAX application development
    • Javascript libraries (YUI, JQuery, Dojo, Script.aculo.us etc)
    • Java
  • Industry experience with large scale enterprise software products (preferably SaaS/On-Demand)
  • Industry experience with large scale, multi-tier web architecture
  • Industry experience developing/maintaining automated test frameworks

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Analyze, design develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for commercial or end user applications. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will develop software according to provided design specifications. Analyze system specifications and existing business processes and information systems. Build enhancements and resolve bugs. Build and execute unit tests and unit test plans.

Work involves some problem solving with assistance and guidance in understanding and applying company policies and processes. Gaining competence in own area and acquiring a higher level understanding of role, processes and procedures. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 0-2 years of previous software engineering or related experience.
