Position Overview

As a Application Developer Senior within PNC’s Retail MIS organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA., Philadelphia, PA or Cleveland, OH.

The chosen candidate will work as part of the Retail MIS Run team utilizing COBOL, CICS, JCL, VSAM, ENDEVOR, TSO/ISPF and Utilities such: MQ, File-Aid, SYNCSORT, EZTRIEVE, INTERTEST, XPEDITER and SYSTEMWARE to modify the mainframe application. COBOL experience is required. Knowledge of the other development languages is preferred.

Job Profile

Provides information on the detailed technical design and development of applications using existing and emerging technology platforms.

Designs and codes application programs; performs testing for developed applications .

Conducts analyses of organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of application systems .

Reviews, analyzes, and modifies programming systems, including encoding, testing, debugging and installing for a large-scale system .

Ensures the operating efficiency of existing application systems. Maintains records for the documentation of systems development and revisions .

Required Education and Experience

We are currently seeking a Senior Developer with experience creating technical ERP solutions to support Microsoft Dynamics AX customizations to meet specific business requirements. The Senior Developer works with key stakeholders and internal customers to build solutions while providing technical guidance, system development best practices, and operational support. This position applies extensive and diversified knowledge and advanced development techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out complete programming assignments toward the development of new programs and application administration.

Responsibilities
NATURE AND SCOPE:

  • This position reports to the Information Services Supervisor and may receive input from the IS Manager as well as other individuals throughout the company. Supervision and technical guidance received relates mostly to overall objectives and critical issues include new concepts and policy matters. The incumbent normally determines technical objectives and assignments on assigned projects and consults with the supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments.
  • The incumbent independently works on a wide-range of complex projects, leads multi-functional project teams and represents the department in appropriate meetings to resolve questions and to plan and coordinate work. Throughout projects, the incumbent ensures the projects follow Development Methodology and Project Management Methodology and that proper standards and practices are in place for all custom solutions.
  • Key activities include: ensure appropriate documentation is complete and correct; leads development team in creating and maintaining of development methodologies; and ensures developers adhere to change management procedures and policies.
  • Appropriate documentation is critical to the success of the Information Services department. Therefore, the incumbent reviews all project documentation to ensure it is complete and correct. The incumbent also leads the development team in the creation and maintenance of development methodologies and ensures developers adhere to change management procedures and policies.
  • At times the incumbent represents the department on important technology infrastructure questions; directs the work of assigned developers; provides development consulting advice to developers, customers, IS Operations staff; and works with development and technical support groups on projects.
  • The incumbent is expected to participate in professional organizations and other network to remain current with technology in order to apply future technologies, techniques, approaches, and methods to business solutions and up-date IS business practice. This also involves remaining current with appropriate certifications.
  • In order to be effective, the incumbent is required to have extensive knowledge of database and web technologies as well as an understanding of .NET and objective oriented application development in order to ensure an adaptable architecture framework that fits within A-dec’s needs.
  • A major challenge of the position is to ensure that the development of A-dec’s architecture fits within A-dec’s needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assure the value of application solution development by maintaining specifications, development code and overall development process; facilitating the evaluation of solutions sought by management, technical groups and the end customer.
  • Assure all applications are effective and efficient through appropriate application administration such as, daily maintenance of application performance monitoring, daily log reviews and troubleshooting, and development of application security policies according to application requirements and business needs.
  • Assures for the accomplishment of team objectives by determining objectives; planning, scheduling and leading development activities; effective communication; and teamwork.

Qualifications
MINIMUM:

  • Demonstrates ability to communicate clearly, persuasively and effectively both orally and in writing and the ability to lead and motivate teammates.

  • Demonstrates ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision and the ability to effectively lead employees in a variety of levels within the organization.
  • Provides evidence of a history of increasing responsibility and leadership experience throughout the career.
  • Successful candidates typically possess 7 years of relevant professional or technical development experience. A substantial background in the technical and practical aspect of programming and development work and experience in the coordination and leadership aspects of project management are required.
  • Technical competence and theoretical knowledge beyond a standard curriculum of an accredited BS degree in Computer Science or appropriate practical experience. Particular skills in Microsoft SQL database normalization and programming, including but not limited to Store Procedures, Views, Table creation, Indexing, Security, Functions and proper maintenance. Understanding of .NET architecture and use of VB.Net or C# in desktop applications and in ASP.NET. A working knowledge of implementing .NET classes; web services using ASP.NET; and IIS and Active Directory are preferred.
  • Typical Microsoft Certifications preferred are: Database Administrator; Application Developer; Solutions Developer; and System Administrator.

PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Development
  • Perform X++ Functional and Development tasks such as class, table, maps, forms, queries, security and report customizations. Experience with workflow development, services customizations, and third party system integrations with AIF is highly desired.
  • Strong Experience with SSRS, SSAS, and relational databases and SQL performance tuning of indexes and locking.
  • Excellent problem solving and debugging skills with an emphasis on knowing when to use specific troubleshooting tools.
  • A demonstrated history of strong analytical methods to solving problems given varying business processes and problems to determine root causes and development of an effective solution.
  • Expert level experience of using supported AX deployment methods and System Management tools
  • Experience providing testing, quality assurance, and written documentation
  • Knowledge and Experience of how to use specific AX design patterns involving the Dimension Framework, SysOperation Framework and RunBase Frameworks, and Global Address Book.
  • Strong MS Dynamics AX 2012 functional skills and ability to understand and support a customized MS Dynamics AX 2012 system. Hands on experience with Sales and Marketing, AP, AR, and GL modules in particular
