Apparel Designer

STATEMENT


The Apparel Designer is responsible for the seasonal creation of functional and innovative designs that align with Global and Regional goals, vision, and guardrails. Must have the ability to invoke innovative concepts and promote new ideas each season.

The Apparel Designer will collaborate with Design leadership and Product Merchandising to drive market leading innovation and design that reflects the business case of the Product Brief. They will have the ability to create trend, color, mood, and fabric boards as well as deliver technical flat sketches for tech pack creation. This position requires hands on leadership from concept to delivery to ensure both design and business goals are met. This position requires strong organizational skills as well as expertise in technical fabrics and products. Must have in-depth knowledge of functional area, business strategies and company goals and effectively communicate these strategies and goals through design output and presentation.

The Apparel Designer must also have a comprehensive understanding of global markets as well as the product selling process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create innovative and trend right products that support global and regional brand and design directives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate brand vision into product designs that achieve sales and gross margin plans.
  • Prepare and drive on time creation of all Design tools required by Sales and Product Merchandising to communicate effectively with customers—from preline to sell-in.
  • Communicate designs, visions, and stories to internal and external audiences informally and at a high level as necessary .
  • Participate in fabric selection in collaboration with Product Merchandising to ensure achievement of both functionality and margin goals.
  • Create all tools and details necessary for Product Development to build garment tech packs
  • Participation and leadership in fit and costing sessions
  • Collaborate with marketing teams on site photo shoots, preparation for photo shoot style outs and ensuring all key product shots are met as necessary
  • Assist product teams in creating impactful presentations for seasonal sales & marketing meetings.
  • Travel, research and seasonal trend reports to all product teams by product segments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. /B.S.) in Apparel/Textile Design, Merchandising, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of Design experience in performance apparel
  • Verse in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and related Design software
  • Advanced knowledge of apparel construction, material construction and properties, costing, pattern making, embroidery and screen – printing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentations.
  • Good computer skills: Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
