Work Schedule: This is a 40 hr/week position. This position is nonexempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is eligible for overtime pay. This position is a part of a 24-hour operation and requires working any shift including nights, weekends, and holidays. This position may be required to work extended and/or flex scheduled work hours to respond to deadlines and emergent work needs. The duration of this assignment is anticipated to be for up to 12 months.

Union Membership: This position is represented by Professional and Technical Employees (PTE), Local 17. If selected, required to join the union within 30 days of being placed in this assignment.

Job Duties

This challenging position reports to the Airport Duty Manager (ADM) on shift at King County International Airport/Boeing Field. The Airport Operations Coordinator assists with the safe, secure, and efficient operation of the airport complying with FAA FAR Part 139 and all local, state, and other federal regulations. The Operations Coordinator will assist Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance staff during the construction season including monitoring for safety, security, compliance, and coordination with Air Traffic Control, contractors, and tenants.
Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provides excellent front-line customer service experience in an airport environment.
  • Conducts airfield, perimeter and airport facility inspections to ensure compliance with FAR Part 139 regulations in addition to local, state and other federal regulations.
  • Has responsibility for overseeing the airfield during nighttime construction and scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Completes inspection reports and notes discrepancies found during inspections and initiates work requests for corrective action.
  • Assists in maintaining and implementing the Airport Certification Manual (ACM).
  • Provides airfield condition reporting through Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs).
  • Coordinates with the air traffic control tower (ATCT) for closures and work on the airfield.
  • Provides vehicle escorts for those needing access to the air operations area (AOA) including contractors, vendors, VIPs, etc.
  • Conducts movement and non-movement area driver training classes.
  • Monitors weather conditions and provides updates to Management, Airport Duty Managers, and Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Assists the Airport Duty Managers with record keeping.
  • Provides after hours assistance for the badging office.
  • Assists in the response to weather events and airport emergencies such as an accidents, bomb threats, or hazardous spills in accordance with the Incident Command System (ICS).
  • Under supervision, assists with updating and implementing various airport programs including but not limited to: Airport Driver training, Wildlife Management, and Snow and Ice Control.
  • Participates in emergency exercise drills and tabletops as they relate to the Airport Emergency Plan.
  • Acts as an Airport Representative in overseeing construction safety related to airfield projects and monitoring construction site(s) for FAR Part 139 compliance, safety, and security.
  • Assists in information gathering for reports from operational and safety data.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in aviation, or closely related program; or 2 years’ experience in airport operating environment requiring emergency response, customer service, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check (CHRC) as required by TSA. Specifications can be found under Title 49 CFR §1542.209.
  • Ability to obtain a Washington State Driver’s License within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to obtain movement area driving privileges, including airfield self-inspection, within 90 days of employment.

Most Competitive Candidate Will Also Have:

  • Airport Certified Employee (ACE) with the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE)
  • Familiarity and experience operating within the National Incident Management System-Incident Command System (ICS) ICS-100, 200, 700, 800
  • Pilot certificate, or experience with flight training
