Accounts Payable Clerk

Position Summary:
Assist with the general financial accounting activities of the organization. Activities may include accounts payable; accounts receivable; ledger maintenance; joint interest billings; and revenue and asset accounting, cost analysis and reporting. Perform any combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records.

Primary Duties:
Perform any combination of the following: calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain financial data for use in maintaining accounting records.

Compile and sort documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiate business transactions, verify and post details of business transactions, and total accounts.

Update and maintain accounting records, including those which calculate expenditures, receipts, accounts payable and receivable, and profit and loss. Record and post transactions.

Reconcile records with internal company members and management, or external vendors or customers.

Track and follow up on invoice payments to ensure they are paid in a timely manner.

Enter data into computer system using defined computer programs (SAP).

Recommends actions to resolve discrepancies.

Investigate questionable data.

Compile data and prepare a variety of reports for supervisors and managers.

Requirements:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Zero to four (0-4) years accounting related experience.

Basic accounting skills; knowledge of principles of accounting.

Basic knowledge of accounting software.

Preferred Qualifications:
SAP experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be careful, orderly and detail-oriented to avoid making errors and to recognize errors made by others.

Strong aptitude for numbers.

Competency in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word and Outlook.

Ability to take separate items of information and consolidate into meaningful and useful information.

Familiarity with natural gas industry and terminology.

Organizational, verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to be discreet and trustworthy, as may be work with confidential material and information.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office environment.

May sit for an extended period of time reviewing detailed data.

Extended period of time spent using a computer.

May work non standard work hours/work days including nights and weekends.
