Accounting Technician III

This permanent part-time position is scheduled to work 15-20 hours per week, and is PERS, Health Insurance, and Leave eligible.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Reconciliations and/or statistics related to income estimate to support financial statement reporting, loan detail, in process recon, and bank account reconciliation
  • Compilation of Memorial Scholarship and WWAMI Loan Activity, such as prepare quarterly financial statements, support year-end financial reports, and adhoc statistical analysis
  • Utilizing ALDER to create and/or modify reports for the Unit. Works with the ALDER Advocate to maintain division reporting needs.
  • Monitoring to determine proper benefit application and record benefit data onto tracking spreadsheets for statistical analysis.
  • Assisting with data gathering and analysis needed to process federal claim payments
  • Oversight, monitoring and resolution of the daily General Ledger (GL) Interface
  • Transfer payments received on ASLC’s non-pledged loans to the proper bank account on a monthly basis
  • Scanning and Review of Corporation Financial Statement Binder and LaRS binder

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Accounting practices and procedures, methods, techniques and terminology; techniques and methods used in reconciliation of accounts.

Skill in:

  • Organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  • Evaluating accounting data for reasonableness and meaningful summarization.
  • Performing calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Professional communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Time management skills, ability to focus and make the best use of time to complete tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Stress management skills, ability to handle frequent interruptions.
  • People skills, good listening, problem solving and decision making skills are essential when working with other agency employees.
  • Quickly learn multiple systems and databases.

Ability to:

  • Reconcile, analyze, interpret and understand the statistical significance and interrelationships of financial data.
  • Easily grasp and retain working knowledge of multiple systems and databases.
  • Collect, assemble, organize and evaluate data.
  • Prepare accurate reports.
  • Interpret and apply specific procedures and instructions.
  • Perform arithmetic calculations quickly and accurately.
  • Initiate tasks and work independently using professional judgment.
  • Communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.

Substitutions:

Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.

Postsecondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.

Postsecondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.

An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.

EDUCATION

If postsecondary education is being used to meet minimum qualifications you must complete the Education and Training section of the application and attach your transcripts to your application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degrees Obtained field.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements, if applicable. If utilizing this education you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

As a result, ACPE may choose to fill this position as soon as a qualified applicant is identified.
