Accounting Clerk III (Courts)

Introduction

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
The Ideal Candidate should have:

•prior experience with clerical/bookkeeping duties

•cashiering experience

•excellent customer service skills

•knowledge of areas of the Courts system and of Clerk’s office functions

•ability to multi-task and should be able to assist a very diverse group of customers in a courteous and professional manner

•prior experience working in Courts systems; significant experience working with an automated financial system are highly desirable

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An Associate’s degree with a major in Accounting or Finance; and

Two years of experience in bookkeeping or financial record keeping.

Note: Degree is preferred but will consider candidates with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.


TESTING REQUIREMENTS
A passing score on a general clerical exam.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, procedures, methods, and theory.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules, and policies governing assigned functional accounting area.
  • Knowledge of computer operations using accounting and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and apply job related rules, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare accounting, financial, and statistical reports.
  • Ability to compile, analyze and/or audit accounting, budgetary, fiscal, payroll and leave data.
  • Ability to use accounting software, word processing, spreadsheet, and related software applications.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Compiles data for preparation of operating budgets.
  • Analyzes and audits accounting and fiscal data, records and reports.
  • Prepares accounting and fiscal reports, statements, and summaries.
  • May testify in court for child support related issues.
  • Provides guidance and training and coordinates the work of lower level staff members.
  • Reconciles and balances financial statements and accounting records.
  • Receives funds, prepares deposits, and reconciles bank statements.
  • Posts transactions to proper accounts.
  • Performs related work as required.

Conclusion
